Heusenstamm is a small town in the outskirts of Frankfurt. A small and pleasant place to spend a few hours

Erbach im Odenwald is a small and ancient town in Hesse not too far from Frankfurt. It can easily be combined with a day tip to the equally pleasant Michealstadt

The palace, almost every German town has a palace somewhere, this one like so many others is a little blighted by having the towns main carpark directly out side it.

Michelstadt is almost next door to Erbach (you could walk from one to the other) and contains many wonderful old buildings.

The castle, thankfully the medieval street pattern means less car parking!

On the outskirts of Michelstadt is one of Germany's most ancient churches Einhard's Basilica. This building was once lost and used as a barn until being rediscovered and partially restored

Small german towns really are like something from a Grimm's fairy tale. Magical!
