It's not a case of making the gap completely airtight.
They just need to make it good enough and that the air filtration system will keep a negative pressure inside the building that all the leaks in the seal will have airflow going into the building, meaning that no contaminated material will leak out.

I don't know which chimney you're mentionning, but assuming it's the red and white just next to the NSC, it's here to stay. It actually was installed back in 2011 to replace the other one that was removed in 2013 (it was in the way of the NSC).

The video from the previous post but embedded.

A ChNPP report, including inside shots showing that they reassembled one of the crawler crane (the 2250) under the NSC.

I don't have the credits for all the pictures below, sorry about that.

This one is showing work on the south east corner of the NSC, next to the turbine hall. We can see that the membrane hasn't been installed here, but they're putting concrete on the ground.

Here we can see the work done by the yellow crane to install a new roof on the turbine hall. This work is probably nearing completion as the crane was dismantled this week.

ChNPP posted a gallery of pictures taken this year, with some nice shots of the NSC.

(link to album)

Also, a video from ChNPP showing that they started dismantling part of the existing structure under the NSC.

And two more recent pictures for which I forgot the source, sorry.
