breaking news: right of way purchased for future commuter rail that would run from downtown, by the MLB/NFL stadiums, and into the south east suburb of Lees summit.

Jackson County, KCATA get together on commuter-rail effort

The local bus organizations (KCATA, MARTA, The Johnson County Bus (The Joe), The Independence Bus have now all combined their branding and ticketing into the new "RideKC" name.

There will be the RideKC: Bus, RideKC: MAX (express bus), RideKC: Streetcar, and I believe the B-cycle bike rentals will be called RideKC: Bike.

future commuter rail will use RideKC name too

they have been putting up some billboards to raise aweness of the new branding/name too

they have already taken the 1st streetcar out for testing, but it still won't be open to the public for another 4-5 months, they are still hoping to be open to the public for the Big 12 basketball tournament next March. The 2nd train should arrive in December, and the 3rd, and 4th/final trains won't arrive until early 2016.

Ford is launching an on-demand bus service in Kansas City

Quote:
Public transportation in Kansas City is about to get a lot brand-ier. Next month, Ford is teaming up with Bridj, a data-driven pop-up bus company, and the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) to roll out a fleet of shuttle vans that residents can summon with the tap of an app. Ten Ford Transit shuttle buses, manufactured in Kansas City and sporting both Ford and Bridj's logos, will start picking up and dropping off passengers in those KC neighborhoods underserved by existing public transportation.

A suit initiated by the bus drivers' union may threaten the on-time opening of the streetcar.

Are there any plans for extending it southwards via Saint Lukes's Hospital, Country Plaza possibly to the university campus? That would be necessary I think for being a serious means of public transportation, even if this current track looks like a good start (no unholy and limited use loop but an actual line across the centre)

they want to expand it but are working on funding. The previous attempt to get tax payer support for 3 extensions lines failed. They seem to be giving up on the Independence and Linwood ave's lines and are focusing on getting the Main St line extended to the plaza. No time table for it as of now.
