Temasek? doesnt that mean like "Lion City"? ive heard of that word. it has got something to do with the Merlion

Temasek is the ancient (Sanskrit) name for Singapore. It means sea-village.

The merlion was inspired by a prince spotting a lion on the island centuries ago, hence the name was changed to Singapura.
Singa = lion, pura = city.
