Temasek is the ancient (Sanskrit) name for Singapore. It means sea-village.

The merlion was inspired by a prince spotting a lion on the island centuries ago, hence the name was changed to Singapura.
Singa = lion, pura = city.

9/10 - unusual, still looks modern and distinctive for a building completed in 1986. Love it.

Nice and solid. At night with the circular lights on, it looks like a stack of coins.</td></tr>

Thats bec it is supposed to look like a stack of coins! It used to be called the Treasury Building, and housed the government's financial officers.
