Leipzig - Revitalization of Germany's Gründerzeit capital

Leipzig is a city in Eastern Germany. Until WW2 the city was an important centre of printing, trade and culture. Especially in the late 19th century Leipzig flourished, and huge, often impressive Gründerzeit quarters were built. When the city became part of the Communist block Leipzigs importance waned (most printing houses, like Baedeker, Brockhaus, Reclam or Insel, moved to Western Germany and didn't come back after 1989), but luckily the Communists were to poor to remodel the historic quarters of the city. Today Leipzig has between 12.000 and 15.000 listed buildings of the Gründerzeit era, and entire quarters were revitalized after 1989. Parts of these 19th century buildings were often expensively reconstructed, something you don't see that often in other parts of the country.
Here are pics of a few projects.

Very much so. It also sustained damage from house to house fighting prior to it's capture by the US army in April 1945.
