SOUTH SEA CENTRAL - Urban City Skyline Project

Premise

As all of you who are posting at the creative corner, I'm an avid enthuisiast in creating 3d designs without the constraints of the real world. In my case since childhood I would draw skylines on my notebook.

In 2006 I started my first Urban experiment - EMERALD CITY. A city completely based on AUTOCAD 2005 - 2006 software.
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...108&highlight=

When I learned 3dsmax, i went for a second city - VERQUA CITY and explored the possibility of bump maps and night scenes. Coastal areas had become realistic
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...329&highlight=

I'm very proud of this image since it was used for a company billboard!

Unfortunately at the time a 32 bit system would only support a certain amount of polys for certin reasons. Additionally I lost the file of VERQUA, so I started anew this time with BAYPOLIS
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...307&highlight=

Baypolis introduced mountains and particle systems. But most important of all was the interlinked references that allowed me to add more buildings than before at still very intricate details. However down the road I felt that Baypolis had peaked its potential and therefore discontinued my work.

This year I went back to scratch - this time around I'm furthering the realism a tad more with the culmination of my years in rendering - South Sea Central

This is the first city that will integrate day and night scenes in one file - utilizing built knowledge on photography and lighting concepts

Also a first this will have a dynamic background - A suburban mainland with a coastline and rugged mountainous peaks. Previously my other cities were "alone".

The boundaries and settings are bsed on an existing reclamation site - South Road Properties of Cebu City, Philippines.

The zoning of the city is still at its infancy - So it may take a while for the buildings to sprout.

Also I'm considering offering some lots to fellow forumers. Kind of like a "design contest". If that would be possible this would be a first for me - A collaboration

Thanks Dubai Skyscraper and Mwahmed. It's been awhile since I posted and I'm amazed at how much progress the 3d designs page has made in terms of realism and quality.

I'll certainly do my best for this project... Again since I'm one man I want to offer some lots up in the future. I might want some key elements (stadium, high end condos, etc.) designed by you guys.

I only saw little of your old city. But I'm looking forward to this. Though, I think you should use a better landscaping txt for the mountain/urban areas

Aerial Update

Unzoned areas are pale in color. Gives the unfinished look. Also adjusted my textures.

Zooming further, here's the planned street level detail (at least for major thoroughfares)

Next update will include the streetlamps and test lighting. Stay tuned!

Hmmm I'm not sure how I could help since the community city is primarily designed with Sketchup, while mine is with 3dmax.

However this could help.

For primary lights I use Lights with attenuation - basically fixes illumination range. That way I can use thousands without bogging down my system.

Secondary lights can use Illumination textures with Final gather activated.

Hope that helps.

Looks really good! I'd say the light is a bit too orange, I'd make it a tad more "yellow-ish" and probably desaturate it a tad also. Compare your street lights to the ones in the texture you use as a backdrop in the last render (that is an amazing render btw).

The color temperature of the lights used were 1800K. That's approximately the color temperature of sodium halide lamps. Your "yellowish" color is an incandescent temperature of 2700K.

But of course another factor is the white balance of the image - by setting it to a lower color temperature we get more yellowish lights. And as a bonus the sky turns to a dark blue setting.

To the uninitiated btw Natural Color temperature can range from red to orange to yellow to neutral white to bluish. To get additional colors you'd need a tint (Magenta to green)

UPDATE:
Here's the masterplan

Finished lots for PHASE I... there will be two additional phases in the future.

Here's the massing for the future CBD of Phase I

This would more or less show the profile of the future skyline.

Buildings will rise NEXT WEEK so stay tuned!

I'm sure it will be an amazing project
But I have some remarks. That space between the artificial island and the real coast is too narrow. The water couldn't circulate normally, so these conditions would be good for water insects to breed and probably spread malaria.
In Dubai, the semi-circle around the Jumeirah Palm had to be divided to ensure enough water circulation.

First, I'm basing this off a real reclamation site of a relatively shallow area. Although in the actual reclamation the beach was composed of river deposits. May I state that I'm not done yet and I'll fix the island shore to allow a plausible ferry service for the island.

Second how can mosquitoes breed in saltwater?

Maybe they can't, I don't know. But in a documentary about The Jumeirah Palm this water circulation problem was mentioned.

Well thanks for the info, I'll look up on that one

First building up, The 10 storey "rojan sports center" (a friend of mine volunteered his name hehe)

NIGHT RENDER

This is more or less the detail I'm going for the next 100 buildings in the future.

More buildings coming soon.
