Thanks for sharing! I was over in Orlando for a real estate expo, else I would have been there. Really impressive crowd.

I snapped a few photos too, finally got around to looking at them. Apologies about the quality, I didn't have a tri-pod and these are 4 second exposures.

That's the Kennedy bridge right? Wasn't there a lot of boat-racer graffiti down there at the base of the bridge, or am I mistaken?

Yes, that's the Kennedy Bridge. Not sure about the graffiti, but there's a lot of it on the sea wall that I took this from (outside Malios).

Plenty of graffiti on the Cass side though, especially the CSX bridge. No photos of it lit up but I did get some of the graffiti.

Kennedy was cleaned up when they fixed the bridge.

The city had a contractor go in and paint the concrete only on Cass down to Platt. The sad thing is that they just spot painted the rowing art/graffiti.

Awesome pics!

Thank goodness - that graffiti did nothing to enhance the city/riverwalk. It's an eyesore.

That's right - decades old tradition making the river unique, linked to the best universities in the country, showing how good our weather is . . .

who needs it. Let's just be like everyone else.

There is still the graffiti all over the seawalls. They didn't paint over all of it, just the bridges because you couldn't light it up with it.

Personally I think it's a great combination. The crew graffitti is still there for everyone to see during the day and the lit bridges to add flavor for the night when you couldn't see the grafitti at all. Cities are living things and if the Riverwalk will become a 24 hour place this kind of compromise is the the key to our future.

I understand the compromise - I do not understand the desire to paint over everything - which is a long running request of certain factions in Tampa. The riverwalk will be no more successful if the graffiti is painted over than if it is left there - probably the opposite. It will also be successful only if something good it built along it in more than two or three places.

And to be honest the crowds in the park show that the market exists for real urban development rather than what we have been (and are still) getting.

I really liked the crew graffiti too, it was a neat historical tradition that brought some character to the bridges. The lights are nice too and I'm glad they kept some of the graffiti but it is sad to see some of it go. I hope they don't discourage it completely in the future.

There are some that want it all gone yes, but they will never win. Th Riverwalk needs a lot of improvements (big and small) to be a success. I hope there is energy (and money) put into making it a success before we start building a path on western side.

The lighting is permanent. I've read that the Harbour Island bridges may also be lit in the same fashion at some point in the future.
