Examples of "Urban" orientated big box stores

I thought it would be interesting if there was a thread on urban formated big box stores here since I have encountered a few in Atlanta, New York, and DC in which instead of using the typical one floor huge parking lot layout that is common in most of the US, instead there is a multilevel parking and store with most orientation towards the streetfront for pedestrian access.

Here are a few examples that I know of:

Washington DC: DC USA (Anchors: Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Marshalls, Staples)

Washington DC: Tenleytown Best Buy

New York City: Atlantic Terminal Mall (Anchors: Target, Old Navy, DSW, Guitar Center)

New York City: Bronx Terminal Market (Anchors: Target, BJ's Warehouse Club, Home Depot, Staples, Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Marshalls, Toy's R US)

New York City: Triangle Junction (Anchors: Target and David's Bridal)

New York City: Flatiron District Home Depot

New York City: East River Plaza (Anchors: Target, Costco, Best Buy, Marshalls, Old Navy, PetSmart, Aldi, and Bob’s Discount Furniture)

New York City: Rego Center (Anchors: Century 21, Kohl's, Costco, TJ Maxx, Toys R Us, Aldi, Burlington Coat Factory, Bed Bath and Beyond, Marshalls, Old Navy, and Sears)

New York City: Sky View Center (Anchors: Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Marshalls, BJ's Wholesale Club, Old Navy, Bob's Discount Furniture, and Sky Foods)

Skyview Center in Flushing, NY by Brucenyc26, on Flickr

Chicago: Wilson Yard (Anchors: Target, Aldi)

Chicago: Lincoln Park Home Depot

Chicago: Lincoln Park Best Buy

Minneapolis: Downtown Target Store

Baltimore: Lockwood Place (Anchors: Best Buy, Filene's Basement)

Anyways does anyone know of other examples within the US or Canada?

That sucks but I guess that was to be expected though because of Best Buy's financial problems, since they have been very busy closing some underperforming stores.

Yeah, Best Buy is closing many of their larger "browsing libraries for Amazon" in favor of smaller stores and a beefed-up online shopping site.

Looks like Wal-Mart is setting up shop in Washington DC as well since two building permits have been issued, one at 77 H St. NW and the other at 5929 Georgia Ave. NW.

Washington Business Journal: Wal-Mart issued building permits for 2 D.C. stores

http://washingtondc.walmartcommunity...ut-the-stores/

Some renderings of the proposed stores most of which are centered around pedestrian access (which is very unusual for Wal-Mart).

They also closed a Best Buy near my house that opened up 3 years ago despite one being located 5 miles south of it that opened up in 1999.

Stuff like Old Navy and Bloodbath & Beyond have always had urban stores, and aren't very large anyway.

I read that Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg, MD is the first location to have urban-orientated big box stores. Any truth in that?

Supposedly from what I have heard it was one of their first "urban" prototype store when it was built in the 1990's but I have not found any sources yet.

Some renderings of a proposed new retail center in Knoxville with multi-level parking and a focus on pedestrian access. The site is also adjacent to the University of Tennessee, and will be located on the property of the former Fulton Bellows & Components plant.

A rendering of the new Target store that will open later this year in the Metreon in San Francisco. The Target store will occupy the entire second floor, with street-level storefronts, restaurants and cafes lining the sidewalks. There will be a 470-seat 'dining terrace' with views of Yerba Buena Gardens, the existing AMC Theatres is planning a major renovation and the developer plans to make the fourth floor and its panoramic terrace an event space.
