So the e-petition has finished, with a total of 557 for, and just 1 against, meaning the required number of responses was beaten by 120.

These are the email addresses of all the members of the Liverpool culture and tourism committee.

Send them a blanket email advising them that people are watching their deliberations with interest, and as per the epetition are expecting a chance to discuss this.

I suggest we all send the following messege, to the email addresses below.

Quote:
Dear Councillors and members of the Tourism and Culture Select Committe.

You will be aware that the epetition in the link below, encouraging the council to consider a bid for the commonwealth games, in Liverpool, has succeeded in attaining the required number of signitures, and as such a public meeting is required with a senior officer.

http://councillors.liverpool.gov.uk/...4&HPID=4905844

As you will no doubt agree, this past year has seen sport at the heart of our national focus. With the Olympic games such an unmittigated success, they have brought the eyes of millions upon that city.

As the Commonwealth games did for Manchester in 2002,the Olympics for London this year, and the 2014 Commonwealth games in Glasgow, the hosting of high profile games present or have presented an invaluable opportunity for regeneration of deprived areas, and publicity for the city region at a global level, as well as provoke an influx of inward investment from private and public sources.

In such a sport loving city as Liverpool, such an event as the commonwealth games-ideally at some point in the 2020s, for which the bidding process opens soon-offers the perfect catalyst for regeneration, particularly in the north of the city.

Imagine it. aquatic events in the river, or further afield of the coast of the Wirral. Events at Aintree racecourse, or the Liverpool cricket ground. Marathons and triathalons taking in the iconic sights of Liverpool and beaming them across the world, and using Goodison and/or Anfield, and constructing in north liverpool a series of cycling, athletics and swimming venues that will serve the city for many decades after any games have finished!

It could even present a solution to the ongoing saga of replacing or regenerating our premiership football grounds?

As many social commentators have suggested, and as much anecdotal evidence clearly suggests, sports brings communities together on a more individual basis too. Such a grassroots focus when hosting such a global event would be essential to bringing together communities riven with gangs, drugs, and unemployment.

This city has a track record of hosting major events, especially in recent years. Be it the 2008 Capital of Culture, or the recent Giants extravaganza, this city also has a passion for such events too.

The Mayor of Liverpool in his recent election stated that `Liverpools best days are ahead`. We are sure you agree.

We watch with interest your discussions on the matter at your next meeting on November 6th 2012, and await with excitement and expectation, the naming of a date for your senior official to answer our questions

Ive sent the above letter to the email addresses and to Joe Andersons email account. I encourage you all to do so

That's the meeting methinks. They said they'll be in touch nearer the date.

So this is the one we need to go too?

A good way to get the public behind this would be to get it in the local press so that a lot more people show up.

Also if anyone knows any sports or community organisations who might be willing to get involved, do let them know.

The main people that should get behind this in my opinion should be EVERTON FC.

I'll be in work then, so I won't be able to attend. However it would be great if someone who is available could go and report back.

I really hope proper consideration is given to the idea, and we see the same vision displayed that saw Liverpool go after the ECofC title, when all around derided the idea.
