the base of this thing truly is massive, and it's great to see this one finally rising after god knows how many years of delays. I imagine there must be a big basement section (several floors) given the size of the hole they dug in this thing (see previous photos) - it goes down at least 10-15m. I wonder Parking? Shopping center? Well done on the latest pictures - keep them coming :-)

Looks more like a USB memory stick with a hole so you can put it on your keyring.

Yes, the progress on this is wonderful. Go back a month or even two months. At the beginning of march, you couldn't even see the bottom from these vantage points.

very good to see progress, but I think it's too bad the project has existed for so many years, not only because we have had to wait for so long, but also because it'll make people change their mind about the design all the time. I find something very beautifull in simplicity, but then the round hole in SWFC changed to be covered in the bottom by the skybridge, and now the Chineese are really ruining the design, by covering more and more of the (before) round hole... the hole is symbolizing "Japan"... omg

^Is that the actual reason for changing the shape? B/C if it is, that's really sad.

You're right about that...things in this city change or pop up--literally--overnight...all of the 破房子 (shitty dumpy houses) that have been marked with 拆 (raze) sit quietly, not a construction worker or wrecking ball in sight...the next morning, when you walk outside--all of it completely gone--only a dirt lot remains...take my street: a lot of construction, completely ripped up, looked like it would take years to finish by looking at all of the work being done, I come out one morning--completely finished. New road, new sidewalks everything.

My point is this tower will also pop-up over night--from a hole in the ground to a 1500 foot monster. So is the way of the Shanghai.

I looked back on it, and it was just a simple conjecture (unless you refer to something else)

right here is the quote you refer to, I think:

^Most people in Shanghai aren't hung up on the China-Japan issue---Shanghaiese care more about money than nationalism, and Japan invests a lot into the Shanghai market.

Then if that is not the reason why are they changing it? It looked much better with the whole circle...

In the mori web page there is nothing about the change ....
