It's actually not bad when compared to the neighboring buildings. It fits right in

New Renderings: Riverside Center’s Portzamparc Plan
http://newyorkyimby.com/2014/04/new-...de-center.html

Quote:
While Portzamparc’s master plan for Riverside Center may or may not have fallen by the wayside, new renderings from the architect’s website give a better glimpse of the scheme, which promises to revitalize a slice of the Far West Side with several new buildings, with the overall aesthetic reminiscent of the nearly-completed 400 Park Avenue South.

^ from the same source.
Seems like the crane issue has been resolved regarding the first tower in the Riverside South complex. This one is definitely u/c.

The tower you are referring to is part of Riverside North, which is north of this development. Although connected, it should have its own thread. Actually each of those towers should have their own threads so not to get too confusing.

So Is This What the Massive Riverside Center Will Look Like?
http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2014/0..._look_like.php

Quote:
City Realty's blog 6sqft spotted new renderings for the West Side's massive Riverside Center project. They were on the website of Extell's One Riverside Park, which is an under-construction luxury tower at the southernmost end of the string of Hudson River-facing limestone-and-glass residential towers. It's just north of the planned Riverside Center. The renderings of the complex, which is also being developed by the Dermot Company and will include "five residential buildings with an estimated 2,500 apartments, 3 acres of open space, and a pre-K through eighth-grade school," beg the following question: Is Christian de Portzamparc still the architect? The visuals look similar to the more basic ones the Pritzker Prize winner had on his website as of April. But maybe another firm has taken over and maintained the glassy, angular aesthetic. If anyone has intel, please hit up the tipline. When all's said and done, the project will take up eight acres along the river between 59th and 61st streets.

I wonder if those renderings aren't outdated cause the first building of the site is under construction by a different company and looks nothing close to what's being depicted. Furthermore, the second building on the site was sold to Silverstein who might be seeking his own architect.
Still hope DePortzamparc will be involved with some of those buildings cause they look bland so far.

I tend to agree. It's wishful thinking believing that the de Portzamparc original designs will be built at the remaining plots but here's hoping anyway...

City Approves Extell's Riverside South Tower with 'Poor Door'

http://newyorkyimby.com/2014/07/cons...boulevard.html

Quote:
Despite opposition from the community and seemingly just about every local politician, developer Extell has, according to the Post, somehow gotten the city to approve its plans for a residential tower with a separate entrance for affordable housing tenants, commonly known as a "poor door."

The building, one of the last Riverside South towers, at 40 Riverside Boulevard, will be 33-stories with 219 luxury condo units and 55 affordable rental units. The affordable housing allowed Extell to increase the overall size of the project under the Inclusionary Housing Program, although a more accurate name, in this case, would probably be something along the lines of the Inclusionary, But Not That Inclusionary Housing Program. While the luxury condos face the water, the affordable units will be segregated into a street-facing "building segment," with the separate entrance located in the back of the building.

[...]
...But which entrance will the slaves be using?

Speaking of the first building, it's rising.
