I tend to agree. When it was a fairly uniform development proposal employing Christian de Portzamparc Riverside Center made sense as a single thread project but it's since gone mutt big time so I'll start a new thread for 1 W.E.A.

New Renderings Revealed for Two Riverside Center Towers

http://www.6sqft.com/revealed-new-re...erside-center/

Quote:
NY YIMBY has gotten its hands on some new Riverside Center renderings. The first shows 1 West End Avenue, which will controversially include a "poor door"—ahem—"first class entrance experience" in its affordable housing segment. That segment, known as 10 Freedom Place, will have 118 units, limited to the eight-story stone base, while a 41-story glass tower with 247 market rate units will rise above it and feature such exclusive amenities as a 12,000-square-foot roof deck with a pool. Architect Christian de Portzamparc was responsible for the initial design, which, somehow, does not seem to have been value engineered into oblivion.

21 West End Avenue does not appear to have been so lucky. Construction on that building, developed by the Dermot Company, is underway after a disagreement with a neighboring construction site was cleared up, and will eventually rise to 43 stories, with a whopping 616 rental units.

[...]
But wait, there's more!

Quote:
Here's the lobby and a piece of the facade of Building 3, which will be 36 stories with 290 residential units.

Quote:
Building 1 will be comprised of two towers over a shared podium, totaling 641 rental and condominium unit with an elementary school and retail. It's one of the more interesting designs in the complex.

Quote:
Building 4 will be 34 stories tall and contain 247 residential units. It's the most Portzamparc-y of all the towers.

40 Riverside Blvd is topped out, 21 West End Ave. is well under way and the rest of the development is pretty much in prep.

Riverside Center's 43-Story Rental Tower Is Half Way There

Quote:
Riverside Center, the formerly-stalled five tower complex coming to the far Upper West Side, is finally on the rise. Well, at least one of the site's towers is rising. That would be 21 West End Avenue, SLCE's contribution, which will be a 43-story, 616-rental building with a public school in its base. Field Condition recently scoped out the site, and reports that construction on 21 West End Avenue has surpassed the half way mark, but the project's other towers aren't so far along. FC speculates that 1 West End Avenue, Extell's rather pricey "dual-entrance" building, will be the next to rise above grade. When complete, the megaproject will bring 2,500 apartments to a site formerly used as a rail yard and parking lot.

Yeah it's like the whole joint is a 'poor door'. Those awful turquoise panels give the base an institutional look and not in a good way...

Yes, looks dated already. I had higher expectations for Riverside Center, but it looks like it's just going to an extension of Riverside Blvd.
