I love it. That era of skyscraper design could have lasted a decade or two longer for my taste, and I'm glad for at least a few architects out there it hasn't ended yet.

21 West End Avenue looks pretty good so far. 1 West End Avenue is iffy and I don't really like it. Buildings 1 and 4 are first class.

GID Development buys part of Extell, Carlyle’s Riverside Center for $410M

Extell Development and the Carlyle Group sold a portion of their Riverside Center project on the Far West Side for $410.8 million to James Linsley’s GID Development Group, according to property records filed with the city.

GID purchased 40 Riverside Boulevard, one of five buildings in the 8-acre project.

Riverside Center stretches from 59th Street to 61st Street along Riverside Boulevard, and is slated to include 2,500 residential units, 140,000 square feet of retail space, an elementary school, a 250-room hotel and a public plaza when it is completed.


GID entered into contract for the property last year and closed on the deal last week. Christian de Portzamparc is serving as the project’s architect.

This is GID’s only current project in New York City. Its other developments are located in Houston, Atlanta, Seattle and Denver.

A representative for GID declined to comment, while Extell and Carlyle could not be immediately reached.

34-Story Riverside Center Tower Will Start Rising Soon

After being stalled for basically forever, the Riverside Center megaproject is picking up steam. Two of the five towers are under construction, sales launched in the condo building, renderings were revealed for the latest addition, and now plans have been filed with the Department of Buildings (h/t the Real Deal and New York YIMBY) for another, which means construction will likely start soon. This tower will be located at 633 West 59th Street, and it will hold 244 apartments over 34 stories. Extell is developing it along with the Carlyle Group, and Goldstein, Hill & West is the architecture firm of record.



The address is mid-block, so the building is likely Building 4 on the site plan above. It will have a pool among the residential amenities, and there will be 2,110 square feet for a community facility.

Building 1 is the two-tower structure by KPF that was recently revealed, and 21 West End Avenue, a 43-story rental tower, is Building 2. Building 5 is 1 West End Avenue, the condo building with a controversial "poor door," and Building 3 is 10 Riverside Boulevard, which will rise 36 stories and have 288 apartments. The only building that does not have plans on file with the DOB is Building 1.
