Yeap, the train itself is 220km/h. The infrastructure need to be updated to run it more than 180km/h. Thanks.

Nope, in fact the name "Slavutich" is the ancient Slavic name for Dnipro river.

Now they are looking to connect Kyiv (Ukrainian capital) and Moscow (Russian capital) with High Speed Link. Project is called "Slavutich-Sapsan".

Actully, Russians wants yo use a Talgo tilting set instead Sapsan at the moment, so they can use existing railway instead building a brand new one.

Yeah, and also they want to use aluminium instead of steel for double-deckers and 250 km/h train, so their axle load would be on par with European trains.

It's true only for one train on this route. All other trains don't go from Moscow to Kyiv faster than 12 hours.

Yeah but it's have nothing to do with the speed. The problem is with custom and border control. So 7 hours with Allegro (Helsinki-St. Peter.)-style custom|border checks in moving train should be compared to 9 hour train with quick customs|border, not with the 13 hour one where custom|border checks are performed only during full-stop.

Is it based on some German design or a totally indigenously Ukrainian design?

I think it is made with the help of the Koreans (Hyundai), but I don't know if it is based on anything.

edit:

Looked it up on Wikipedia, and I think this bit refers to these trains:

"Recent developments
In November 2010, UZ agreed to buy 10 high-speed interurban trainsets from Hyundai Rotem, with the prospect of a much larger order or joint venture for local production.[6] The first two trains would be delivered in February 2012, two other in April and other two in May, when they will start operating."

That would mean they are Korean-made.
