The pile work is now well underway - construction is in full swing for the first tower! How do we tag this thread with "Jersey City"?...

The design is too random.

Seems like this type of design is popping up in towers around the world, pile of blocks, but wait lets randomized the orientation to seem more daring!

I think all the negative comments here are just way too premature... the whole complex and the retail and public spaces once completed will look a lot better. Granted this is not the concept design I really would have gone for but it certainly won't be boring, and will make the Jersey City skyline not only bigger but more interesting.

Under Construction

This building is already under construction and should be moved to that section. The foundation work is well advanced now.

Pictures from the blog Urbanism Vs Modernism http://urbanismvsmodernism.blogspot....rk-city-9.html published in the blog and in Wired New York http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showth...l=1#post449686 by the blogger, along with updates of other buildings in JC.

Two cranes creatively frame my favorite gateway for this part of Jersey City, the part that is almost too convenient for advocates of a "Twin Freedom Tower" as in seen in the movie Click. The left crane is for URL Harborside, a three tower complex. The first one will be 69 stories high(!) and contain 766 units. Its design consists of a stack of shifting boxes. The one on the right will be twin for the Trump Plaza tower, a 50 story building.

Piling and foundation prep for URL Harborside
BTW I guess that not very appealing hotel in the background (CANDLEWOOD SUITE-JERSEY CITY) will be razed in the future, not soon, but eventually, when large plots begin to be scarce in JC. The plot is pretty big and only have that hotel with a lot of surface parking.

A little bit more progress.

One building has started. The other two will take longer.

I believe the first one will be done by 2016, with phase 2 developing the other two towers together beginning shortly thereafter if the market conditions warrant with a quick selling off of Tower 1's units. Though a number of people have commented negatively about the design( the stacked jenga and the fact all three are scheduled to be of the same design, I am hopeful the actual result will really turn out better than the skeptics believe. At least maybe with the pause in building the other two a redesign may be considered of those buildings, though I do think they will be much better a sight in the Jersey City skyline than critics believe even if all three remain identical in design and height.

Piling work continues. They didn't have to dig far being very close to the Hudson River. Concrete column bases are above ground, meaning this is already starting to go vertical.

Foundation work continues. The site is just above sea level so they can't really excavate very far, but piling is mostly complete and many of the massive column bases are being poured.

Yes, only one tower is under construction. The others will happen later. As you can see in the photos above, which I am usually too lazy to crosspost from my personal blog after posting on the WiredNewYork forums, the building is already above street level. They did not dig very deep at all, due to the proximity of the Hudson River, which is on the other side of those office buildings in the background.
