Former East Prussia/ Ostpreußen/ Rytų Prūsija/ Prusy Wschodnie/ Восточная Пруссия. Places & heritage.

East Prussia

Former rich region in eastern side of Baltic sea.
Created on former balts and slavonics lands became one of the most beautiful part of Germany.

After WWII this part became part of Russia and Poland.
Memelland became part of Lithuania in 1923.

Main idea is

- add nowdays photos from cites, villages, towns other places from former East Prussia.
- note former, ethnic and current city, village, place name, current state.
- don't talk a lot about policy, just try to say historical facts.

I hope, together we will make intresting thread.

As long as the OP confines himself to posting pictures of the Lithuanian and Kaliningrad Oblast areas I don't forsee any problems whatsoever.

But should he venture any further south

Poles, I think that we have opportunity to create some other threads, for example:
- "Lithuania - old forgotten region of Poland"
- "Ukraine - old forgotten region of Poland"
- "Belarus - old forgotten region of Poland"

Please explain terms like Royal Prussia, Ducal Prussia, Masurians, Kashubians, Partitions of Poland, Germanisation. If not, this thread should be and will be closed.

So, I hope someone quickly explains these terms, or Tadek will close this thread!

Like I said, limiting this thread to images of the current Lithuanian and Russian areas precludes - in total - the relevancy of all but the last item on your list.

That last item being something that both today's Lithuanians and the descendents of the ancient Prussians might view as good cause to derail this thread.

But somehow I rather doubt that any potential problems will originate from those quarters

What's wrong with you. East Prussia, like Crussaders were historical fact.
I could speak a lot about Lithuania Minor in North part of Eastern Prussia, about old prussian, lithuanian names in this area, but I won't.

If you don't want to agree with historical facts, just don't go to this thread.

Your examples like this:

Quote:
- "Lithuania - old forgotten region of Poland"
- "Ukraine - old forgotten region of Poland"
- "Belarus - old forgotten region of Poland"
Is just diseased man ideas.

By the way If you disagree that some areas of Prussia (about 1800-1945) was not touched by german culture, just explain why. We will make nice discussion.

We should talk about all area of East Prussia.

Actually, no, because these parts were a fief of the Polish crown for some time too.

I think the introduction to this thread is more than basic. IMO, putting down the rich and diverse history of this region in 2-3 sentences is misleading or even shameful.

But I agree to wait and see what else the OP will come up with.

Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus were part of Poland as well. Royal Prussia was part of Poland in 1454/1466-1772/1793 and later invaded by Germans during Partitions of Poland (guess what, citizens were trying to defend, not happy with German rulers). This is historical fact. I was wondering, why all threads about lost Polish lands or cities like Lwow, Wilno, Grodno are closed, if these are just historical facts.

Fair enough, but let us not forget the Warsaw was situated within the borders of Frederick the Great's Prussia for a brief span as well

Of course it was "touched". There is no part of central Europe that was not touched by German culture one way or another, but calling East Prussia part of Germany and limiting to this claim is extreme oversimplification. This way we can call Lithuania beautiful part of Russia, if example with Poland was too obnoxious for you.
