It has. Not entirely sure to what extent because I haven't been there in a while (15 years?) but it's definitely open for visiting and you can easily spent an entire day over there. It's so huge that renovation is going on continuously over there I would say.

Not sure if it will help or harm the place.

Agreed. That whitish color on the mock-up pics looks awful, doesn't match the castle at all. Architecture looks bad, too.

As a comparison, the same shot in the 1930s:

There are some modernisations, but the architecture seems to match quite well. Not sure about the colours indeed, but I think those are hard to judge on a render like that.

it is remarkable how successful germanization was in this region or were these kashubs you were kind of Germanic/polish anyway and with a little push from the fatherland they completely abandoned their polish heritage?

Not Kashubians but Masurians, mostly Lutherans that is why the germanisation was easier, but in fact quite late.

Masurians were to a large degree assimilated by the second half of the 19th century. Bear in mind, Masurians (unlike Warmiaks) lived for hundreds of years in the state where German was language of administration, so assimilation was rather inevitable.

Fragments of "Podróż do Prus" (published in 1859) which describes fairly well the process of germanisation.

The last real chance for Poland to stop germanisation of Ducal Prussia was probably in the late 17th century, when Gdansk Treaty was signed (in exchange for Polish consent for Charles’ army to march from Livonia through Royal Prussia, Sweden agreed to grant the Duchy of Prussia to King Sobieski for his son Jakub). Polish-Swedish plans failed when the Elector of Brandenburg conquered Western Pomerania in 1677-1678. See: link1, link2

Topic: "Places & heritage."

Jan Antoni Blank (6 May 1785, Olsztyn/Allenstein, Warmia – 20 February 1844, Warsaw) was a Polish painter in the Classical style who specialized in portraits and miniatures; many of which are in a style similar to Biedermeier.
