^ Well, there are roughly 20 million people of Polish ancestry living outside Poland, making the Polish diaspora one of the largest in the world. Reasons for this displacement vary from border shifts, to forced resettlement, to political or economic emigration.

There are people like me and my girlfriend, who are afraid to return to Poland, because of the poor economic situation of our lovely country (of course, there's huge improvement in the recent years). No surprise that many ethnic Poles, Warmiaks emigrated to more prosperous, not-communist West Germany when they had a chance. Btw, please open the following link with reminiscences of Warmiaks and Masurians and watch the last video, "Tu czy tam"...

poor economic situation? I would say dynamic with massive changes happening ripe for opportunity, huge improvements in infrastructure etc. Poland is one of the biggest job generators in Europe, but if you look at the last two quarters it's been very bad and recessionary all over Europe, only Poland is holding its head above water right now with a few other exceptions.

Good news from Kaliningrad. At last our authorities decided to "renovate" Rominten heide: it's planned to make bicycle roads, wooden sings decorated with dragon heads (i think it would be more suitable to make deer heads instead of dragon ones but nevertheless... dragons are cool too ); hotels, camping, and other things so fancy for eco tourism

Only the old town and part of the centre. Most of the city's outskirts survived in quite good shape.

While Warmia (map) is full of architecture: historic buildings, Catholic churches (epitaphs, altars, tombstones, etc.), cultural heritage related to over 300 years of the Polish administration (1466-1772 & 1945-now), Masuria is a region where we can find many preserved evidences of the past Prussian dukes/kings rule (1525-1918).

Town Hall in Srokowo/Drengfurt (originally built in 1608-1611 by Duke of Prussia, John Sigismund, rebuilt in 1772-1775, clock tower from 1817)

Recently renovated coat of arms of John Sigismund (Duke of Prussia) on the Town Hall

Due tu enormous damage inflicted during WWII the city lost its town charter and now is a merely village (although remnants of the city market square and parish church show that it was a city once).

The Polish name after 1945 was Dryfort, but in 1950 the name was changed to commemorate Stanisław Srokowski, the head of Commission for the Determination of Place Names
