And if so I guess most of the things are written in german which makes it necessary for employes to be able to read german, right? I'm just curious about the daily practice with this "problem".
I have tried to do research, both genealogical as well as historical, in former German cities now in Poland and the old German records are largely unavailable. The ethnic cleansing after WWII included destruction of huge volumes of documents which were housed in buildings blown up and destroyed as documents separately. Cemeteries were bulldozed and removed as well as Church and municipal records. The percent of loss is difficult to estimate, but clearly "most" are gone forever.

Old road from Kwiedzina/Queden to Wolfsschanze, but I think this road is older than Wolfsschanze.

You could say such things about many big cities which had been mostly destroyed during war.

I have been this summer in Kaliningrad. View is very sad. I could say that Kaliningrad is like Konigsberg gravestone, nothing more.

If the Russians are really serious about making Kaliningrad what they would have us believe it is... they need to reach very, veeerry deep into their pockets and faithfully restore the castle.

Do that and the resulting tourist dollars will fund a boatload of additional restorations which will in turn result in funding more of the same

The path is clear. Will they take it?

Hello Depeched, and to all of you participating in this former east prussia Thread!
Depeched: you started a fantastic topic! Today I just finished reading the whole Thread in the Forum.
Congratulation for everybody. Many beautiful pictures and much useful information.
The history of this area interests me very much.
This is a wonderful landscape with historical beautiful cities.
In August 2013 I visited north poland. Totally impressed. I don't know how to describe my feelings there. But for me I got a feeling, like coming home.
This place seemed to be familiar.
I would like to travel again in the next year. I want to visit it all of the former east prussia. Next year I'd like to visit Lithuania, Kaliningrad and Kurland.

I once again would like to say Thank You to all of you terrific guys commenting and sharing your knowledge here on this thread.
Please excuse my bad englisch!
Best regards from hungary

ps: I have a little problem. I cannot attach pictures. But i don't know why?
