Based on the sqft of office space figure that Project Digital will take up, how many jobs do we think that'll be?
180,000 sq ft. I stand corrected.

From the Offices page yesterday...............

[Quote]Sunlight letting brightens Manchester scene
By Simon Binns
Online car hire firm Traveljigsaw is on the verge of signing the largest office deal in Manchester city centre this year.
It is to take 60,000 sq ft at Sunlight House on Quay Street, owned by the Apia Regional Office Fund, jointly managed by Aviva Investors and Warner Estate.[Quote]

Are we sure about this?
The 180,000ft2 appears not yet to be a done deal according to this. The same article talks about property experts downgrading the office take up forecasts for the year.
Something doesn't add up.

The 180k sq ft is split over a number of buildings and aren't all in Manchester city centre which is probably why the Traveljigsaw deal is still being referred to as the largest deal in Manchester CC.

Have I missed something or have we decided this "project" is a piss take?

Either way tomorrow appears to be no closer than it was yesterday!

Still being told by well placed sources that it's Apple at the pointy end of this project.
Can't understand the delay though. Technical? Wouldn't be surprised if they really are talking about 'groundbreaking' stuff.
We'll have to be patient

Probably delayed until the New year, what with Christmas coming up, etc. It's always the way. Late....., turns into the New Year. It will happen. And then, BOOM!

Wasn't the original plan a launch date in October?

I admire your confidence.

From the same source: heads of terms agreed only on the property side so not a 'done deal' yet but confident

There's absolutely no way this isn't happening. Too much news has already come out about it. Just like the Manchester City related stuff, when the time is right the announcement will be made.

I would be completely astounded if it was Apple. Seriously: utterly, totally, comprehensively shocked and amazed.

This would be global business news; perhaps not headline BBC News stuff, but make no mistake, we would be talking refined, weapons-grade "big deal" development. They are the most valuable company in American history; there's no reason at all to suspect them - other than that it's a tech project, and they're the biggest tech company.

No, I just can't see it being Apple. I did some journalism work in the mobile industry and although I'm not an Apple insider by any means, it just doesn't make sense, especially with them just starting on their new headquarters and that the distribution of the office space doesn't line up with their mode of business.

I would be tremendously thrilled if it was Apple. It would be a massive coup for Manchester - you just can't talk lightly about these sorts of megacorporations. We could well talking a game-changer for the regional economy (long-term, I must clarify, with regards to the Manchester Digital City scheme and others.).

This one has a very strong whiff of wild-speculation-gone-out-of-hand about it, and I am sorry to try and dampen a lovely dream - although I dearly hope your sources are on to something here, Lookin Up!

Like I said, just passing on something I was told by someone who should know.

Don't forget this is not a case of someone 'like' Apple setting up a European HQ in Mcr.

We do know it's a consortium led by an 'A-Lister' that means it's more likely to be a project based venture than a corporate set-up. The 'project' nature of the venture would go most of the way to explain the delay.

If I was to take a personal punt, I might think Cisco

I'm with you on Cisco. I think they'll pin the whole thing together.

Tech side seems to be the source of delays. It is frustrating though.

Of course - I didn't mean to look like I was jumping on you. And I don't pretend to know anything more than your sources might! Just relaying my intuitions on an Apple possibility.

Yes, I feel that a Cisco-led consortium would fit in very nicely with what little we do know about the nature of the project and the distribution of office space.

I can also see it being Oracle, or some other large server-side networking technologies company.

I'm still siding with Apple. Cisco, IBM, Oracle are already in the b2b market and Project Digital is going to be the company's first steps into the business market.

They're also hoping to launch a new product so forget everything that you already know about Apple, this is something completely different i.e. they're not going to be selling or developing phones from these sites.

Since I'm abroad atm, my only TV link to home is BBC World, have just seen for the first time a major ad from CISCO - ultra hype about what they're planning to do, changing the way we live BS, you know, the usual guff.

I didn't pay much attention until I saw the closing frame of the ad, it said:

'Tomorrow starts here'

.....Project Tomorrow. Co-incidence? I could be jumping to conclusions particularly after making a punt at them earlier on......
