Driving to Kahului

Driving along Maui's countryside the mountains loom large in the horizon...

The highway from Kihei to Kahului:

Typical street of Kahului, main commercial hub in the island:

The Road to Hana

Eastern Maui is the place that gets all the rain and thus it features a tropical forest. the road to there is narrow and twisting... all in all a true adventure...

View of Kahului in the distance:

Some of the beaches on my way to the East of the island:

The road to Hana... suddenly everything turns very green:

It soon becomes a tropical forest:

The twisting road to Hana... notice the jeeps on the road. Some tourists I guess fancy going to an amazon excursion:

The bridges are only one lane wide:

At every turn the views can be very rewarding:

The road gets really narrow:

Road to Hana continued...

The scenery is truly exhuberant:

There are small water falls:

And pretty tall and spectacular water falls:

From Rainforest to Dry desert...

The south side of Maui is a desert... the road is so bad that most tourists do not venture to this part of the island... but all in all I found it quite interesting and dramatic:

That is all the road to go by:

Not a soul into view:

Barren land and the backside of the Haleakala volcano at 10,00 feet ht.
(3,000 m):

Just me, the lousy road and the majestic volcano:

The road continues...should I turn the curve or just drive straight off the cliff?

Exploring Lahaina:

Going to explore the old fishing village of Lahaina on Maui's West coast:

Love roads that run parallel to the ocean:

Steep rock walls on both sides:

Tunnel ahead... how exciting:

Lots of canopy trees along the road:

The old village of Lahaine, a fishing village in the old days. Todays a place to get your Maui's t-shirt souvenir:

Harley Davidson of Lahaina. where you can rent your bike and cruise Maui in style:

Typical strip mall with huge canopy tree as center piece:

Your typical store interior:

Old storefronts adding charm tot he place:

More storefronts:
