GUANGZHOU | International Financial City | 580m | 1903ft | Pro

Another axial CBD coming, around 2km eastwards from Zhujiang Xincheng.

All pics are by 轩轩必胜客. Finalist proposals for the masterplan are 3, 6 and 7.

The designs for the towers are NOT real, so don't waste posts talking about them. This is a masterplan proposal, that means we only have to pay attention to plot distribution and heights.

Proposal 1. Dismissed.

Proposal 2. Dismissed.

Proposal 3, by Cox Architecture. ONE OF THE FINALIST PROPOSALS. Pay attention to Zhujiang Xincheng on the left, you an see Chow Tai Fook, West Tower, etc for comparison. But remember these models are too concept to take the heights seriously.

Zhujiang Xincheng, current CBD

New CBD

Pazhou cluster, with Poly'ssupertall

New CBD in the background

Tallest tower 600m

Model of the new CBD

Proposal 4. Dismissed.

Proposal 5. Dismissed.

Proposal 6, by Aedas. ONE OF THE FINALIST PROPOSALS.

Maximum height 580m.

Proposal 7. By Shanghai Tongji Urban Planning and Design Institute + Guangzhou Asian City Planning and Design Institute. ONE OF THE FINALIST PROPOSALS.

Maximum height 450m.

Proposal 8. Dismissed.

Proposal 9. Dismissed.

Proposal 10. Dismissed.

Proposal 11. Dismissed.

3 and 6 are the best, but 3 is my fav I thik. 7 is terrible, I hope they didn't choose that one. 1 and 4 were stunning too.

For once, I have got to say that squares and open space is good, because it brings hope of density, which is ironic, but true because people can set up stalls and sell food and other things. I like how this design, a semi follow-up to ZJ has a lot less roads separating each building making it ped friendly.....I like.I see a half hearted marina/ bay in some of these proposals but I think they will turn out a lot better than the renders as usual.

Like Zorg said, I wont comment on the buildings since they will change anyways but Im not too keen on seeing so many similar height buildings crammed together, a mix of tall and short, close and spaced would be awesome

It will probably be number 6. I like number 3 better, but there is just too much to destroy on the western part of the plan. Liking the park to the river is just too much of a big project, and many houses would have to be destroyed in between.

In Zhujiang New Town and Pazhou, residential blocks called 城中村 (lit "village in a city") were destroyed as well. It is those residential blocks with 4-6 story houses build very close to each other (less than one meter between them sometimes). Destroying these is relatively easy and inexpensive as the entire building belongs to one owner and that the value of these is very low.

In the 3rd plan's north-western part, buildings are not 城中村, which probably means it will be very expensive to destroy so much of regular buildings just to be replaced by a park.

ok i only comment on the finalists now. i am only talking about the location of the buildings itself, since the tower designs are only concept.

proposal 3: one 600m tower surrounded by a lot and high density of towers, it looks like that we will get a lot of ~300 to ~350m towers. the main tower will stand out, i really like it.

proposal 6: the main tower is a bit smaller with 580m, but it has surrounding towers that are taller, i can see more towers that will reach over 400m. i think i like this still of CBD more than the third proposal because there is not one extremely tall tower, but several very tall towers supporting the main extremely tall tower.

proposal 7: one main tower surrounded by smaller towers, only that this time the main tower is 450m and the surrounding towers seem to be under 300m. let us just hope they will not go with this proposal, it is not at all up to the scale of the other proposals and additionally the layout looks really boring.

Another CBD? this entire pearl river delta area is going to be one skyline some day in the not to far future if they keep building with this speed :p

I think I like proposal 3 the best.

Thanks, KillerZavatar. That helps a lot to understand the differences. Prop 7 is so poor, prop 6 is my fav by far. Also we should keep on mind that those "maximum heights" are so concept that the actual projects may be far taller. Remember that Suzhou Century Center was just 2x400m in the masterplan.

a - no problem, i just thought scrolling up and down and the search function to quickly move up and down between the picture wasn't the best way to go for a short reference.

b - yes i agree, proposal 6 looks like it is the most balanced. not only in terms of heights, but also in terms of treating the surrounding area nicely. it is dense, yet has a nice green river area. the bridges look more simple than in the other designs, yet without being crazy it looks still modern.

c - we don't even have to get that far, the masterplan for the other CBD in guangzhou featured twin towers and now we get CTF instead as a twin

By the way, you may notice that in most models this CBD has two core areas, as we can see in this image. The supertall on the left must be Evergrande project, aka Yuancun Area Supertall, announced to reach 500. However Evergrande is a total troll concerning supertall projects, they never build any supertall they release, they don't even bother to release decent images.

yes i saw on the first post, last picture of pro 6, there is a little side diagram showing the height of the skyline that there was another big tower waiting. did not know it was from a troll company, so we will probably not see that one coming which is rather sad

I can't see the wisdom in even thinking about building another CBD in Guangzhou, the one they are building now is only half built, and I'd guess there are already skyscrapers lying idle there! This is based on future economic projections infected by wishful thinking. China better start building incrementally in line with market demand soon, or there will be trouble around the corner

yep, this will most likely be built, as crazy as it may sound.

I just wish they could find a more iconic name for the CBD. International Finance City sounds pretty boring, and could be very quickly confused with the International finance centre (west tower)
