I just wish they could find a more iconic name for the CBD. International Finance City sounds pretty boring, and could be very quickly confused with the International finance centre (west tower)
Do you know what's going on with Baietan? The renders for that looked even more spectacular than this.

If all these three are completed...it will probably draw the financial might of the pearl river delta to it.

Guangzhou is arguably China's largest urban agglomeration (40'000'000+ people). Guangzhou, Foshan and Dongguan are practically just one city now.

I was wondering about Baietan too. It's huge development but it is a year since the last update I wander if any preparations are ongoing for this one.

There is nothing going on there at the moment. The Baietan CBD is a long term project, scheduled for stating in 2020 only. There are several redevelopment plans in Guangzhou that should be executed first

1.Pazhou (first constructions started)
1.Baiyun New Town (fist constructions started)

2. Yuancun ( International Finance City) (planning - might start in 2-3 years)

3. Central Axis south extension
4. Baietan

Baiyun new town, for sure not as it is too close to the airport

Pazhou has some 200-300m announced, nothing exceeding that height so far but some renders of the fully build area seem to show one building taller than the others on the western part, a 400m probably. But this is just a render though and nothing official. There are still many empty plots where projects haven't been released, but there should be more to come in a near future.

As for the central axis southern extension, no idea yet.

Baietan will have a 600m+ apparently.

If they build a 500m+ building there will be for sure more supertalls around to keep the skyline balanced.

Also I believe there should be supertalls on the west section of the new CBD.

Now that's what I call long term project. Didn't thing we have to wait that much but there is no surprise. It's gigantic project and unlike many in china located in the middle of existing urban area which surely slows things down.

It seems that proposal 7 won the bid, but they were asked to review the masterplan.

First part of the new masterplan has been reveiled now (eastern core), remaining part will follow in march 2013.

It seems that many ideas from other masterplan have been included in the final one, which is good as masterplan 7 was for sure the worst one among the 11. This new version seems so far pretty good, hope the left part will be good as well.

i was waiting for an update on this.

i agree proposal 7 was the worst, yet it looks like they now include a taller main tower than what we expected before. looks like it will be ~500m, but hard to say. do you have better quality versions, so we can figure out whats written on the render and also on the wall behind? maybe they also feature a new prelimited main towers height.

edit:
found a slithly taller picture, looks like it says 450m. too bad
