HGH | Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport

Transport Hub
Aug 24, 2012
Shanghai Daily

THE opening of Xiaoshan International Airport's Phase II in the fourth quarter this year will be accompanied by a new transport hub to make getting around easier.

The giant transfer center will be in front of Tower 1 at the airport, enabling passengers to move between planes, Metro, buses and taxis with ease.

Four parking structures will be built around the center, providing 4,682 car spaces. About 2,300 of those slots will be reserved for taxis.

Xiaoshan International Airport is expected to handle more than 25.6 million passengers a year after the completion of Phase II. It includes two terminal towers and one new runway.

By 2050, 65 airport-related infrastructure projects will be completed at a cost of 93.5 billion yuan (US$14.8 billion) in Hangzhou.

Xiaoshan airport puts Terminal 3 into service

Dec 31, 2012 | Source: www.hangzhou.com.cn/Translated by Shanghai Daily

The brand-new Terminal 3 of Xiaoshan International Airport is now in service.

The Terminal 3 of Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport officially opened yesterday as the second terminal for domestic flights, while the airport's second runway will go into service in mid-January.

With a gross area of 170,000 square meters, almost of the sum of T1 and T2, Terminal 3 is connected to T1 by a tunnel and is designed to meet the world's top standards. It has 31 boarding gates, meaning passengers can get on board without taking a shuttle bus.

The neighborhood around the airport looks very interesting. I wouldn't mind walking around there to explore.

Passed through HIA yesterday. It was so foggy. The plane began descending and landed in what felt like less than 2 minutes after you could see the outside again.

Didn't get to use the new terminal though. International arrival area wasn't great. I needed to use a phone, and while there were lots of public phones, no one knew how to use them or how to get the card needed to use them. There was free Wi-Fi though.

Ethiopian Airlines mulling flights to Hangzhou
Xinhua Excerpt
Oct. 16, 2017

ADDIS ABABA - Ethiopia's national air carrier Ethiopian Airlines (ET) is mulling flights to the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou.

Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, has in recent years been known as an emerging technology hub and home to e-commerce giant Alibaba.

Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of ET, told Xinhua on Sunday the air carrier is mulling Hangzhou as its next destination as part of its plan to attract more Chinese tourists and business people.

Private investment from China to Ethiopia in 2017, up to September 5, has reached more than $680 million, outpacing the entire 2016 figures of $560 million.

China is the single largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) to Ethiopia for the last several years, as Ethiopia bids to attract Chinese expertise and money for its industrialization ambitions.

Chinese tourists are also a rising demographics with the East African country attracting 41,660 Chinese tourists in 2015, a trend the Ethiopian government expects to grow in the coming years.

The new T4 terminal will be open before 2022 Asian Games. It will be more than double of current T1+T2+T3 terminals and the airport will handle 80 millions passengers annually.

So this design will be the one built, rather than the design shared earlier this summer?

Will the original terminal buildings continue to house check-in and baggage claim functions, or will they be used only for boarding and airside activities?

Or will the current terminals be closed altogether when T4 opens, as happened in Nanjing, Zhengzhou and Shenyang when their new terminals opened?
