Where in DC are the nice rowhouses?
Hi:
Heading down to DC to do some general tourism this weekend. Where are the nice row houses? They are somehwere in Georgetown no? I'd like to see as many nice old row houses as possible? Aslo, there are old industrial/wharehouses at the head of the C&O Canal in Georgetown, no? Thanks for any tips. |

Depends what you call nice, but they're spread throughout the city.
In NW, Georgetown has some nice rowhouses. Dupont Circle and Logan Circle have nice rownhouses. Kalorama has nice rowhouses. In NE/NW DC, Bloomingdale/Eckington around North Capitol St, there are some not quite as nice, but still unique looking rowhouses. In NE/SE, Capitol Hill has nice rowhouses as well. There are some industrial rowhouses near the C&O canal, but I've never really explored them. I don't know if there are many of them, either. |

Thanks for the info.
Where around Capital Hill area are they? The only thing I am familiar with on capital hill is the capital and the library of congress. Are they further east? |

Yes, they're farther east. East Capitol St. and Massachusetts Ave. have really nice rowhomes; there are some around Eastern Market, and south of Pennsylvania Ave. has some homes as well.

Thanks. Not sure I'll have time to get that far over but I'll give it a shot.

Columbia Heights and Shaw (the area around the U Street and Columbia Heights metro stations) have some nice rowhouses as well.

Just got back from DC.
I was busy with other places so I didn't get to Logan Circle. But I did see some row houses in the Georgetown area and in the Capital Hill area. Nice, but nothing spectacular. They really messed up the Museam of American History. They took out the really good industrial exhibits it seems. The Library of Congress Jefferson Building is spectacular, absolutely spectacular. The most impressive interior in the US I think. Also, the museum in the Ford Theatre was also quite good but the C&O Canal was a disappointment - especially the visitor center. I really do have to visit Baltimore some time. The port area looks very interesting. |

Yea, next time you come, definitely try to see Logan Circle and Kalorama if you want to see nice rowhouses.

If you make it to Baltimore be sure to hit the Peabody Library. Might give the Jefferson building a run for its money as far as interiors.

Giving the Library a run for its money will be hard but definitely I'll check it out.
I am impressed by the harbor at Baltimore and I would really love to check out Sparrow Point. Is there any good public space/road side where one can get good views of Sparrow Point or the industrial harbor in general to take pictures? Even what route 95 goes through is quite interesting. |

I'm doing a little photo thread of what I saw in DC. Haven't gotten to many of the nice homes yet but I will:

However if you are looking to see row houses, Baltimore is the King of row houses. They are all over the City. Probably has the highest or one of the highest concentrations in the U.S. Baltimore still retains its historical character which wasn't heavily demolished like D.C.'s was to make room for massive low slung office buildings. Didn't realize there is public access to the grounds of old Fort Howard but apparently there is and it affords a direct view across the water to Sparrows Point.
This is probably the best location to view Sparrows without being on the property or out in a boat. ![]() copyrighted photo courtesy of Robert David Crews (aka ursusdave) davidrobertcrews.blogspot.com/2007/02/decline-of-too-many...
