No, lets use this thread, specific for Kochi related projects in Emerging Kerala. As Kochi is Economic/Commercial capital of Kerala, naturally this event shall lead for proposal and development of several projects specific to Kochi. Lets discuss such proposals here, without cluttering elsewhere

City to showcase projects worth Rs. 1,100 crore


The biggest project is the inland luxury cruise proposed along the Kollam-Kottappuram route on National Waterway 3 with a fleet of four ships

The host city figures prominently in the Emerging Kerala meet scheduled here from September 12 to 14 with 24 projects set to be paraded before prospective investors for attracting investments worth more than Rs.1,100 crore.

This is in addition to various mega projects running into thousands of crores, which have already been proposed in the city.

Out of the 11 mega projects to be showcased at the investors’ meet, six are from Kochi. This includes the Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region, Kochi-Palakkad National Investment and Manufacturing Zone, Electronic Hub and Oceanarium, besides the High Speed Rail Corridor and seaplane operations connecting the city.

The proposed 24 projects in the city will be showcased under eight different sectors. Most number of projects has been proposed in the tourism sector.

The sector accounts for five projects amounting to a total investment of Rs.115 crore.

Of these, the biggest project is the inland luxury cruise proposed along the Kollam-Kottappuram route on National Waterway 3 with a fleet of four ships. This entails investment worth Rs.40 crore.

Four projects each have been proposed under the manufacturing sector, including engineering and automotive and urban infrastructure development sector.

The latter throws open investment possibilities worth about Rs.219.45 crore compared to Rs.23.14 crore for the former.

The tissue paper manufacturing plant at an investment of Rs.12 crore is the biggest proposal in the city under the manufacturing sector while a parking plaza-cum-commercial complex proposed by the Greater Cochin Development Authority at a cost of Rs.156 crore is the biggest proposal in the urban infrastructure development sector.

Food and Agro Processing and Value Addition, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), and IT and ITES sectors account for three projects each.

While the proposals in the Food and Agro Processing and Value Addition account for investment opportunities worth Rs.133 crore, those in the IT and ITES sector woo investments of about Rs.2,000.39 crore whereas proposals in the MSME are worth Rs.4.69 crore.

A mega food park proposed at Puthenvelikkara village on 100 acres is the biggest proposal in the Food and Agro Processing and Value Addition sector.

The project supported by the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries entails investment of Rs.120 crore.

The third IT building proposed as part of the second phase expansion of Infopark Kochi at a cost of Rs.91.98 crore is the most attractive investment opportunity in the IT sector.

Commercial power laundry service proposed at a cost of Rs.2.30 crore is the biggest one in the MSME sector.

One project each has been proposed in the Logistics and Infrastructure Development sectors.

The integrated solid waste management plant with power generation proposed at Brahmapuram at a cost of Rs.350 crore in the infrastructure development sector is the biggest among the proposals in the eight sectors in terms of the scale of investments.

A logistics park on 10 acres has been proposed near the Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal at an estimated cost of Rs.60 crore.

Well, in general thread, we can discuss many projects that are pan Kerala in nature.... As you know, often talking city specific projects, particularly Kochi/Trivandrum in Kerala's common threads as often it ends up in petty unnecessary discussions.

Since our intentions is not to generate ego and false pride, rather a serious discussion and making many aware of whats going on in Kochi, why not we restrict our development news within this thread. Those who wants to know about Kochi, will come here and see these information.....

I was talking about Cochin Projects thread. Anyways, I have no issues with both.Only that projects will get distributed between both the threads and later on, no one may use this thread

I don’t think any good investments will come through emerging kerala, may be some small investments may happen but not big, when there are other good states to invest who will risk and invest in troubled state like Kerala. Now Gujarat is the best choice for investors, the Vibrant Gujarat is an example, it’s a mega event compared to emerging Kerala, there in Gujarat, before two years MOU worth more than 20 lakh crore was signed. I don’t see such potential for Kerala.

You have to start for a change at any one point... You can't nothing will happen and remain pessimatic for years... No one says, Emerging Kerala 2012, will be like a Vibrant Gujarat... But atleast it shall attempt to be a game changer.. Perhaps EK-2018 would be make something like VG now does....

But understand that Gujarat does not have any left political parties. Whereever left is there, development will not happen.

Keralites should change for Kerala to become like a developed state. Otherwise Gulf is the only option for us inluding our own left.

Left has contributed much for the average standard of living that Keralites enjoy. Its not like in other states where the there is lot of gap between rich and poor. Also, keralites, being educated has more social awareness and they tend to question anything that they cannot digest. This is also good in one way to stop rich getting richer and poor getting poorer. Lets not forget that.

I totally agree to what You said ,Communism pre 1990 has helped our state a lot..But modern day commies doesnt have any qualification to do prasangam on Communism...

For Majority of Keralites Kerala has become a place where they spent their vacations..Not where they live...Our State is Land of lost opportunities.

Why should we give credit only to Left? Even Monarchy played a crucial role for the benefits that Kerala enjoys... The two key indexes, Education and Universal Healthcare Access which Kerala always boast about was not Left Initiative. Rather both were contribution of highly progressive Maharajas of Travancore and Kochi. Ofcourse left also continued the legacy and it went on forward in post independent era, coupled with NGO movements.

Left movement had relevance in 50s, when Kerala was struck in a paradox of feudal culture and high educational/social awareness levels.... But no more relevant in current scenario. Today the concept of one man ownership has gone. The corporates all are public and owned by public individual stake-holders. The profits thus equally benefit to the society. Reliance might have made Mukesh Ambani richer, but equally made more than a lakh ordinary Indians richer..... Hence the erstwhile concepts of Kuthaka etc no-more relevant and must be changed.....

I dont agree that it is only due to the Maharaja's the social equality ( whatever it exists) has come in Kerala. I would give 10pc of credit to them if you ask. I am infact in agreement with what e_arunsid said about the state of communism before 90s and now.

I am not talking about social equality. I am talking about Universal Education and Universal Healthcare. Both were initated as royal policies.... The public schools were started across the state and govt lands were donated to missionaries to start schools, where students can study irrespective caste and creed. Govt schools were open for all students. Same in case of Healthcare...

These two leading policies, resulted in promoting more social awareness and later called for equality and movement against social unequality and fedualism which included Communism.....
