This is another controversial buliding near historical part of the city...

The Gdansk Shakespeare Theatre

European Solidarity Centre

...and I like each one of them

That is one cool building, especially in contrast to the nearby historic architecture.

Polish government wins Gdansk World War II museum case

So PiS is trying to turn that museum into yet another lame nationalist propaganda store, instead of an interesting and educating museum about a terrible time?

What a pity. The architecture is great and the exhibition as it was designed sounds very interesting, well worth a visit. However, if PiS should succeed in tearing that exhibition apart for one that is to their likening, the whole museum would become a waste of money and nothing I would feel tempted to visit. My hopes are that it is simply too late to turn the exhibition upside down, even if they take over control over the museums management.

I wonder what exhibits exactly they would want to change.

Happy opening for Gdansk/Danzig!

I hope the museum stays sensible towards Polish-German relations and the history of formerly German regions like Pomerania and Silesia.

Yes, I do hope the museum promotes understanding and builds bridges., especially with our closest neighbour, ally, partner and I believe family member Germany. But we should clarify that Silesia and Pomeranian have a complex history. Their roots were Polish or Slavic (from approx. 8th century) and actually Baltic in the case of Gdansk and many groups shaped their unique identity, in recent prewar history German culture and Germans played the greatest role.

I wouldn't worry too much about what DW has to say about the current ruling party

So it has opened indeed. Let's see for how long this museum will be one with an interesting exhibition and how long it takes to turn it into some hurrah patriotic museum about Polish glory.

So far it looks like the government is trying to starve the current museum out of operation. I am not sure if it is out of nationalistic rage or because PiS sees the Museum as a Tusk institution which, as a consequence, needs to be changed from ground or eridicated.

Could you elaborate? I mean could you address points in specific. Or is it enough to brandish the news source as German to discredit it?

DW was not the only news source reporting it.
