Out of the Emergency Ward?
Going back to an issue I raised some weeks ago. It appears that the former Ruchill Hospital site is being targeted as a major private sector housing development, with a proposal to build 400-owner occupied/social rented homes on the site as part of the Glasgow City Council’s 2004 North West Area Development Framework and Ruchill & Keppoch New Neighbourhoods Initiative along with Scottish Enterprise. This is excellent news given that it will connect the communities of Firhill and Maryhill to Ruchill and Possilpark. Along with the Glasgow North Canal Restoration Project, it will effectively expand the West End, transforming what are some of Glasgow‘s most deprived areas. Also I think it can’t come fast enough, given the A-listed buildings have been left to rot for almost a decade, and especially considering the disgraceful state that quite possibly Glasgow’s finest hospital was left in by the Greater Glasgow Health Board.
http://www.local.housingstrategy.glasgow.gov.uk http://static.highbeam.com/s/sundaym...rdsahomeforth/ Some images of Ruchill Hospital in it's heyday circa 1922, before the invention of portakabins. Furthermore here are some detailed proposals for the redevelopment of Stobhill General Hospital including the new Ambulatory Care Centre by NHS Greater Glasgow. http://www.show.scot.nhs.uk/ggpct/secure/future.htm

Wheres the real biggies? Considering Glasgow's built on a grid system type similar to Melbourne, one would have thought they'd be skyscrapers?

.................built on a grid system similar to Melbourne, eh?
Melbourne built on a grid system similar to Chicago ....Chicago built on a grid system similar to Glasgow. No towers because when the Glasgow grid system was first set out in the 1740's and developed in the 1840's elevators had'nt been invented. Slipped up here.............. but hey can't invent everything I suppose |

The UK city development league table:

Forgot to mention, it looks as though construction has started on the Jamaica St gap-site beside Woolies.
