Chennai is a potential MICE destination

Stressing that Chennai has the potential to be one of the best ‘MICE’ (Meeting, Incentives, Conferences and Entertainment) destinations in the near future, T Natarajan, honorary secretary of South Indian Hotels and Restaurants Associations (SIHRA) said that while supply currently outstripped demand with respect to hotels, the demand would catch up very soon.

Addressing a press conference on the occasion of SIHRA’s 61st annual general meeting, Natarajan said that except for Chennai and Coimbatore, the supply of hotels and tourism resorts in the rest of Tamil Nadu far outstripped demands. “It is only in Chennai that there has been a sudden spurt of hotels, followed by Coimbatore,” he said.

Vivek Nair, past president of SIHRA and member of the executive committee, said that there is a necessity for the increasing the Floor Space Index limit for hotels especially due to the high costs involved in constructing new hotels.

“This will substantially help in meeting the requirements of the projected increase in the arrival of foreign tourists,” he said.

He also touched upon other issues of commercial electricity rates, inter-state taxes and the reduction of luxury taxes among other things.

K Syama Babu, president of SIHRA who was re-elected this term and Sudheer Nair, secretary general were also present on the occasion.

TEDx Chennai extravaganza on Sept 30!

The TEDx Chennai extravaganza is back in town! 16 eminent speakers from across the globe will come together for this years event. The speakers, each of them masters in their own professions from different parts of the world, are will share their insights on the topic ‘Life by Design’! Some of the speakers include Jane Ransom, Mykola Latansky, Caroline Rochon and Nazee Mirshamsi.

This year, the TEDx Chennai edition is being held at the Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Chetput, on the 30th of September, 2012. The event, which grows bigger and more inspirational every year, is scheduled between 9am and 5pm. The tickets are priced at Rs. 5000/-,Rs.3000 and Rs.1000 only!

Chennai hosts concept saree fashion show ‘Silkline 13’

Silkline 13, the fourth edition of the annual saree fashion show, unveiled a range of newly designed silk sarees at Chennai, the capital city of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Chennai-based silk brand Sri Palam Silks, which also was the organizer of the saree fashion extravaganza, showcased a collection of forty pure silk as well as concept sarees.

The three-hour long programme had the Indian model and actress Parvathy Omanakuttan catwalking as the showstopper.

The concept saree collection featured ‘freestyle fusion silk’ sarees, which can be worn as ghagras or churidars, and ‘flip style fusion silk’ sarees, which have two completely different colours on the front and back.

These two new looks added to the company’s line of 2012 concept sarees that includes ‘ultralite fusion silk’ as well as the ‘slim fit silk’ sarees.

Other than the concept sarees, Sri Palam Silks also showcased its range of trendy lightweight designer, casual silk and Muhurtham sarees, created especially for the upcoming wedding season.

A bi-annual magazine named Silkline, published by the silk brand, was also released at the fashion event.

The popular saree label owns a number of outlets in Chennai, Coimbatore and Bangalore cities.

The third edition of The Hindu’s Auto Expo will be held from October 5 to 7 at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam (Hall 3). The fair will have 15 top brands participating and there will be 25 stalls by leading Indian, German, Korean and American car manufacturers. On display will be a range of luxury cars and accessories.

This edition of Auto Expo is presented by Renault in association with TATA Motors. Other participating brands include BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Toyota, Maruti, Hyundai, Honda and Skoda. As for accessories, the list includes Map My India Navigation System, Bosch Car Wash, Ezi Oil and more.

There will also be a special pavilion for super luxury cars and super bikes including Rolls-Royce Ghost, BMW 650i, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, e Coupe, Jaguar Range Rover, Suzuki Hayabusa, Honda VT 1300 CX and Ducati.

Actually its just 50Rs, which can be redeemed inside. All foods are cheap. Will be a big treat for keralites, Briyani lovers, tandoori lovers...

Literally one can eat any Indian food.

From tomorrow there is a German film festival for 3 days featuring 7 odd German movies about woman power or something like that i read. Entry is free. It is in Max Muller institute auditorium i think.
