I watched the previous edition and was pleasantly surprised by the entries ...especially their german , japanese and scandinavian collection ...the piece de resistance was the Iranian film " the separation". Thoroughly enjoyed it and hope it would be the same this year

It's from the 13th-20th December.... ....I think entry is somewhere between 300-500 rs for a guest pass. With this pass, one can view as many number of films as he/she wants

TiE Chennai holding meet to help startups raise fund

Everyone gets an idea that he or she may think that is sure to rake in the moolah. But, very few actually take those thoughts forward into serious business planning. And just a rare few from this serious lot really manage to raise the required capital and run a business.

That’s because even if funds are available, its tough to get an investor to buy into an idea. It is in fact this issue that TiE Chennai has been strenuously working to become a platform that links prospective entrepreneurs and investors to promote entrepreneurship.

It is now organising a mega event TiECON Chennai on December 4 in the city and expects over 1,000 participants, comprising both investors and budding entrepreneurs. Successful business promoters like G M Rao, chairman, GMR group and Subroto Bagchi, co-founder and chairman of MindTree among others would narrate their success stories and recall their path to glory.

“TiE Chennai has been predominantly tech-based and last year we wanted to go out and reach out to other sectors. As a result, it is now more broad based,” says Lakshmi Narayanan, president, TiE Chennai.

Auto Serve 2012 to kick start Nov 16 in Chennai

The fifth edition of Auto Serve 2012, a three-day exhibition on automotive after market business held by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), will kick start Nov 16 here, said an organiser Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, R. Dinesh, chairman, Auto Serve 2012 and joint managing director, TVS Sundram Iyendar & Son Ltd, said: "CII through Auto Serve forum is providing a ready to use marketing and educational platform for the growing automotive after-market business in India."

According to him, Auto Serve 2012 was being held at a crucial time when the automotive industry was currently witnessing a slowdown.

"With this background, Auto Serve 2012 would demonstrate to industry and other stakeholders on enhancing the profitability in the automotive after-market business by showcasing state-of-the-art technologies and solutions," he said.

According to him, the Indian automotive after-market is expected to grow to around $9.4 billion by 2015 from its present estimated size of $3.7 billion.

With the population of automobiles in India exceeding 110 million and growing at the rate of 10-12 percent per annum, the automotive after-market business in India is poised for an immense growth, Dinesh added.

He said over 100 exhibitors will be showcasing their products and services at the Auto Serve 2012 which is expected to attract around 20,000 trade and business visitors.

Tamil Nadu Technology Development and Promotion Centre of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising the second edition of AgriCon, the conference on agricultural innovation in a changing farming dynamics, on December 13, 2012 at Hotel Park Sheraton, Chennai.

The objectives of the conference are to be a platform for knowledge sharing on challenging aspects of the agricultural innovations and promoting transfer of technology and public private partnership (PPP) in the agriculture sector. The conference attempts to bring together collective knowledge and thought leadership for deliberations that can deliver definitive direction to enable sustainable agricultural production.

Demand is rising for agricultural products such as food, feed and fuel. However, agricultural productivity growth rates have been slowing, pressure is increasing on finite natural resources such as land and water, and producers face uncertainty over input costs and the effects of climate change. Fostering research, knowledge transfer and innovation in the agricultural sector is vital for improving productivity, sustainability and competitiveness.

This conference marked an important step in the discussions on the ways to enhance innovation and the translation of research results in the farming sector, said Arun Jaura, conference chairman, AgriCon 2012 and head, India Engineering Centre and vice-president, technology, Eaton Corporation.

The conference would have five sessions. The first session covers crop productivity – product development and delivery, which would be focussing on doing business with the retail and foodservice industry, agricultural innovation and challenges.

The Hindu Young World Quiz on November 28

The multi-city mega quiz will be held in 16 cities, while the grand finale will be in Chennai

The 13th edition of the hugely popular The Hindu Young World Quiz Competition, a part of the The Hindu-NIE Initiative is all set to kick off in the Andhra Pradesh capital on November 28.

It will be held between 12 noon and 3 p.m. at the Hari Hara Kala Bhavan and participants should report at 11.15 a.m.

Any two students studying in classes seven to nine can form a team and a maximum of four teams from each school are permitted to participate.
Entry card format

Completed entry cards may be sent to P. Ranga Reddy, Regional General Manager, The Hindu, Hyderabad, for registration.

Once registered, the top portion of the Entry Card must be carried by participants to the venue without fail. Photocopies of the cards will not be accepted. Entry for the event is free.

Six teams for the regional finals on stage would be selected based on a preliminary, written round.

The winning team from each region will qualify for the Grand Finale at Chennai.

Certificates of participation apart, a large number of prizes await the winners at every stage.
Outstation teams

India’s tire market: Find out what’s new at Tyrexpo

International buyers from the U.S., Europe, Asia, South America, South Africa and the Middle East will offer new export sales opportunities for domestic exhibitors at Tyrexpo India 2013. The event will take place at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai, India July 9-11.

Tyrexpo India organizers ECI International say that Indian manufacturers are increasingly looking to overseas markets to make up the shortfall in domestic sales volumes. That strategy they say will be helped by the presence of hundreds of international tire buyers and distributors at the exhibition in Chennai next July.

The opportunity will be particularly significant for Indian tire makers hit by a slow-down in domestic OE demand and sluggish replacement sales, affected by higher tire prices.

“In 2011 there were buyers from over 50 countries attending the show, representing major tire importing markets such as the UK, Germany, Italy, the United States, Canada, South America and many others,” says ECI managing director Paul Farrant.

“In 2013 we expect that figure to increase strongly, which means even more opportunity for Indian suppliers to connect with or expand their activities in new markets across the world,” he adds.
