Nod for ITIR in Andhra Pradesh

Quote:
More than two-and-a-half years after it was mooted, the Centre finally gave "in principle" approval to the Andhra Pradesh government's proposal for setting up an Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) around the city, giving a much-needed boost to the state's efforts to attract fresh investments into the industry.

The ITIR would be developed in an area of 202 sq km (50,000 acres) in two phases over a period of 25 years. The ITIR is aimed at attracting an investment of Rs 2.19 lakh crore in the IT\ITES sectors and create direct employment for 15 lakh youths, according to state Information Technology Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah.

"ITIR is a combination of production units, public utilities, logistic, environment protection mechanism, residential areas and administrative services. ITIRs would include Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Industrial Parks, Free Trade Zones, Warehousing zones, Export-Oriented Units, growth centres, existing settlements/industries and estates/services," the Minister told newsmen here this afternoon after receiving a communication from the Centre.

While neighbouring states Odisha and Karnataka too competed for the ITIR, AP was the first to secure in principle approval from the Centre. The ITIR is expected to boost IT exports from AP from Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 2.35 lakh crore while the electronic hardware manufacturing sector is expected to grow from the current level of Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 80,000 crore, according to the minister.

"Direct employment will grow five times from the current three lakh to 15 lakh while indirect employment will be in the order of 50 lakh. Built-up space will rise from the present 40 million sqft to 130 million sqft," Lakshmaiah said.

HYDERABAD: An Information Technology hub is expected to witness rapid growth in the IT sector with the setting up of investment region around the city.

The central government has agreed in principle to Andhra Pradesh government's proposal for setting up an Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR), a minister announced Saturday.

State IT minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah told reporters that the ITIR would come up over 50,000 acres of land in 25 years. It is aimed at attracting an investment of Rs 2.19 lakh crore in the ITTES sector and providing direct employment to 15 lakh people.

The investment region is expected to increase the direct employment from the current 3 to 15 lakh and indirect employment from 10 to 50 lakh. The built-up space will rise from the present 40 million square feet to 130 million square feet.

The investment region would comprise production units, public utilities, logistic, environment protection mechanism, residential areas and administrative services in three proposed corridors.

The government proposed to develop the infrastructure for ITIR at an estimated cost of over Rs 15,000 crore.

Under the mega project, special economic zones (SEZs), industrial parks, free trade zones, warehousing zones and export-oriented units would come up in three corridors around the city.

The minister said the ITIR would increase IT exports from the present Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 2.35 lakh crore. Similarly the electronic hardware manufacturing sector will grow from the current Rs 6,000 crore to Rs 80,000 crore.

The development of IT sector in Hyderabad began in mid 1990s and it is today at the fourth place in the country in terms of IT exports.

The city is home to global IT giants and Fortune 500 companies like Microsoft, Google, IBM, Oracle, Dell, Motorola, Deloitte, Convergys, UBS, Bank of America and HSBC.

The Government that had at that time was a black government in which politicians only thought about getting black money. I hope now that is not the case.

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Hyderabad: After hanging fire for nearly four years, the much-awaited Hyderabad IT Investment Region (ITIR) is all set to become a reality with high-powered committee headed by the Union cabinet secretary finally giving in-principal approval to the mega project.
Straddling 202 sq kms or 50,000 acres (nearly five times the 10,000-acre ITIR projects cleared for Karnataka and Orissa),the Hyderabad ITIR is slated to catapult the city into Indias largest knowledge hub in the coming years and could well be the biggest booster kick that a T-struck Hyderabad has been desperately waiting for.

Centre to foot external infrastructure bill

Quote:
Hyderabad: The ITIR is expected to see the addition of another 90 million sq.ft of built-up space to the existing 40 million sq.ft,taking the total built up area under IT,ITeS and electronics sector to 130 million sq.ft,state IT and communications minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah told newspersons on Saturday while giving the in-principal nod to the project.
The funding of Rs 2,189 crore for external infrastructure development will be taken care by the Centre, Lakshmaiah said, adding that players setting up new projects in the ITIR will be extended the same incentives being currently given to the existing IT firms and those laid down in the recently announced Electronic Hardware Policy 2012-17.
Needless to say the state government is elated at the crucial hurdle being cleared as it feels the final approval from the cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) is just a mere formality,as IT&C ministry officials pointed out.
The IT/ITeS industry, too,is certain that the proposed ITIR will pave the way for big-ticket investments into the state and result in a tremendous improvement in the overall quality of life making the city a preferred destination for knowledge industry.
The project will fuel the second phase of growth not just for Hyderabad but the entire state. It will create an entire eco-system for the sector thanks to a full-fledged focus on development not only of core infrastructure but also soft infrastructure like international schools, incubation centres and the like within the ITIR perimeter, points out V Rajanna, president of The IT and ITeS Industry Association of Andhra Pradesh and global head of telecom technology business unit as well as regional head of Hyderabad centre of Tata Consultancy Services.
This is the good news that the state has been looking for quite a while now.Just like first the SPTI scheme and then SEZ schemes attracted a lot of FDI and investments, there is an expectation that ITIR will create dedicated clusters and result in an explosion in terms of IT investments, attracting top talent and adding to the revenue growth for the state and Hyderabad in particular, adds Bipin Pendyala, secretary general of ITsAP and site manager for CA Technology Centre in Hyderabad.

EXISTING AND PROPOSED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENT REGIONS

I've been saying damn times to people of our counterpart that Hyderabad's got it's own ITIR which was the first in Country during the Rosaiha time but people used to argue that it never comes up in a city like Hyderabad, Now we have the answer Hyderabad's back we just need a leader like Mr.Naidu to implement it so we can create wonders.

Awesome News!!

Infact our the spine that connects the ITIR regions- the ORR is being/has already been built. Hopefully Pocharam is connected by the next year.

Some of the Connectivity projects that can be funded by the center are:
1) ORR Circular Rail
2) High Speed Airport Link
3) MMTS Phase-2 (As it connects Pocharam with the Airport)

Apart form this all those IT SEZ by TCS, Cognizant, Raheja's and Indu at Shamshabad/Maheshwaram/Mucherla will see some action finally. Government should seriously take back the land allotted to these companies if they are not serious about taking them up. They are just hoarding land.
