HYDERABAD, NOV. 11:
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has said that the IT Investment Region planned over 50,000 acres in the State will serve as a major attraction for investors.

He said that the State Government is in the process of notifying 50,000 acres for this mega project approved by the Central Government. As the project takes shape, the State IT exports now at about Rs 50,000 crore are projected to touch a whopping Rs 2,50,000 crore over the next 5-10 years.

Speaking at a meeting of Andhra Pradesh Real Estate Developers Association, he said the exclusive zone, the State’s and Hyderabad’s inherent plus points will attract huge investments.

The Rs 6,800-crore outer ring road of 158 km around the twin cities is unique in the country. It has potential to help develop the city along these roads.

Coupled with this, he said the development of the country’s biggest metro rail project will change the way people live in the city.

He felt that the ITIR and the potential to develop real estate around the outer ring road projects will have a major impact on the growth of the city over the next few years. Already, Hyderabad is an attractive investment destination and the development of the infrastructure will provide the necessary boost to developers.

Referring to Government efforts to strengthen the infrastructure, he said the implementation of the Krishna Phase III drinking water project, which seeks to bring about 5.5 TMC of water to the city, will be expedited.

"The Chief Minister said the city requires about 1 TMC per month and we have made arrangements for about 15 TMC for 12 months. Efforts are on to bring water from Godavari river too," he said.

ITIR in Hyderabad to create 1.5 mn jobs
The ITIR in Hyderabad, planned with an investment of Rs 2,300 cr, will have external infrastructure with over 50,000 acre of IT and ITeS area
K Rajani Kanth / Hyderabad Nov 15, 2012, 17:29 IST

The IT Investment Region (ITIR) proposed to be developed in Hyderabad in two phases over a period of 25 years, will be creating an employment potential of 1.5 million
, according to state information and communication technology (ICT) minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah.

The ITIR in Hyderabad, planned with an investment of Rs 2,300 crore, will have external infrastructure with over 50,000 acre of IT and ITeS area.

“In a down economy, corporations are looking forward to cutting down on the costs and that is where India, specifically Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad, is taking an advantage by offering arbitrage benefits,” he said at the e-India summit 2012 in Hyderabad on Thursday.

The state firmly believes that investing in IT is not a luxury but a need. IT is a differentiator, Lakshmaiah said, adding that corporations would and should continue to invest in IT regardless the economic position, failing which they would be deemed to fall behind in competition.

Andhra Pradesh, which is home to 1,206 IT companies employing about 300,000 IT professional directly, accounts for about 11% of the total employment in the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and the special economic zones (SEZs) in the county. On the talent front, the state produces over 250,000 engineers annually, by far the largest in the country.

Stating that the office space in Hyderabad is expected to reach 20 million sft this year, an increase of 15% over last year, and representing about 12% of the country’s demand, Lakshmaiah said Hyderabad ranked third globally in terms of cost of operations after Qinding in China and Subaya in Malaysia.

“There is no secret why over 18 million sft has been leased by various IT companies that are operating in Hyderabad. In 2011-12, 6 million sft of built-up office space has been occupied, as against 5 million sft during the previous year. And, 70% of the space is from expansions,” he said.

Plans Media City

According to the minister, the state is in the process of developing a Media City to promote animation and gaming sectors in the state. Around 30 acre has already been allocated for the same at Raidurg on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

“The IT department officials have been directed to conduct a workshop with major animation and gaming players in the country to take their feedback and make sure that the park is in line with the Manchester and Dubai media cities,” he said.

On the National Optical Fibre Network for broadband connectivity to panchayats by 2013, Lakshmaiah said the project was estimated to cost more than Rs 2,000 crore for Andhra Pradesh alone. “The country’s first pilot has recently been completed at Paravada block in Visakhapatnam,”

Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Killi Kruparani on Monday said the long-awaited proposal to develop IT Investment Region (ITIR) in Hyderabad would be cleared by the Union Government ‘very soon.’

Announcing this at a daylong workshop on ‘Growth of IT in Visakhapatnam region’ organised by Software Technology Parks of India, she said apart from Hyderabad the Centre was also contemplating setting up ITIR in Visakhapatnam recognising its strategic location and potential to grow as a big destination for IT investments.

ITIR project at Hyderabad, which is hanging fire for several years, envisaged creating world-class infrastructure around Madhapur, Uppal and Shamshabad in an area of 50,000 acres. Special incentives would be offered to those investing in ITIR.

The Minister said the Centre would set up 10 more software technology parks and as many as 210 electronic manufacturing clusters – of which two would be located in Hyderabad, one each at Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam. Stating that there was not much progress in investment in electronics, she said the government would offer 50 per cent subsidy to those investing in the clusters. Ms. Kruparani said UPA-II Government was keen on achieving robust e-governance and was setting up a data centre in each State capital, including Hyderabad.
