I love the airport renderings and it certainly is long long overdue for Bogota. Looks gorgeous I cannot wait to arrive and depart through it.

The rest of it is ok - depending on where it is located. Those that are in the core of the city add valuable density, putting people in more central locations is always the best place - but but to be honest I feel a bit sad that some of the older buildings have not been re-used or adapted to work in combination with the new ones. Bogota does not seem to be into restoration as much as tear-down-renovation, and there is some great late 19th and early 20th century architecture. Developers might be given some extra incentive to incorporate these into their new projects (more density?)

I also find some development in recent decades, especially in the western part of the city to be inhumanly scaled, and think it is not very pedestrian friendly. For the western areas, I would love to see someone work on developing a modified form based on the older, really successful pedestrian areas around the Zona R? with tree-lined boulevards and little shops and cafes with office buildings and larger stores here and there. Varied, diverse, unique and human-scaled in contrast to the carpet repetitive highrises with giant arterials.

The airport needs to be monumental, but having everything else be monumentally scaled detracts from real monuments and hinders postive things like intimate and interesting streetscapes.

In last years there are projects that give new uses to existing buildings in the city, including Continental in downtown Bogota, which is close to opening:

Next to Continental soon will start Bicentennial Tower (see post #20)





Ciudadela San Martín:




First stage has been opened (a shopping center):








Also in places like Teusaquillo, Santa Fé and La Candelaria is being restored many traditional houses and buildings, which are making room for new offices and a better use.

Parque Central Bavaria in downtown is a good example:



With the urban renewal plans launched in Bogotá (are 21, soon I will post it in this thread), -of which 6 will start construction this year-, the idea is to integrate some traditional buildings located in the zone that is involved in the urban renewal.

That's awesome - I remember noticing that it looked abandoned last time I was on Ave Jimenez (broken windows on upper storeys etc) - it really is a great-looking building and I am very very glad to see it restored and re-used.
