VA operate scheduled services to HKT which was down gauged from B77W to B738 equipment when John Borghetti jumped into the CEO position.

Dang... was it a justified move? I mean, the capacity has been downgraded by around half if it was originally operated with an A330, if not a B77W. And I wonder how cramped that flight could be if one does PER-HKT...

The down-gauge was justified. VA is a different carrier to what it used to be back then the wide body fleet was under utilised on routes which just didn't suit. From memory the 5 x B77W operated;

SYD-LAX-SYD-NAN-SYD
SYD-HKT-SYD
MEL-JNB-MEL-LAX-MEL
BNE-LAX-BNE

Makes sense. I think that a B738 doing that route may be good, I'm just thinking if that aircraft can actually go further north to Bangkok in case...

VA operated BNE-HKT & MEL-HKT with the 77W. Don't recall them operating SYD-HKT.
