Genova is so underrated, the city centre is a fantastic labyrinth.

btw this is unconceivable:

The only thing I think is bad about Genoa is the freeway that cut the city off from the ocean. It really should be put underground and replaced with a combination of a waterfront park and broadway.

This is the opera house's tower, and it is the typical example of a thing that you can love or hate at all...In my opinion is very particular and despite its modern aspect, is well put in the context

Yes, it is called Sopraelevata, and is a fundamental link between the east/west sides of the city
Unfortunately its aspect is terrible, and new solutions have been studied for years. Now there is a project of a tunnel under the passenger harbour, but the real problem is to find the money to do it

Nice seeing that the authorities thinks along the same lines as me at least. Could it not be possible to at least partially finance it with a few waterfront developments along parts of the bay? I.e. fill this area with a development or something.

Several times I was in Liguria and Genoa. You are interested to see Genoa eyes of a tourist. Do you mind if I post a few photos of Genoa.

It may not have the spectacular beauty of it's old rival, Venice, but Genova clearly has much to offer anyone interested in wonderful Italian architecture (and that's me). I imagine the fact that it's relatively unknown by most tourists visiting Italy would be an advantage by keeping the overcrowding away which has definitely spoiled Venice and Florence, unless you visit these cities in the Winter months. Thanks for positing these great photos.

Interesting, since I've been considering a trip to Genoa next year.

Thank you for your beautiful post
However the presence of tourists is increasing due to cruises, but fortunately Genoa has remained and is remaining a "living" city and not an open-air museum (unique and beautiful, of course) as Venice (that is in my opinion the most beautiful city in the world)
