The building went on fire in 2009 after a big billboard exploded (probably) because it was struck by lightning. After that was evacuated and untill today is in state of abandonment.

Calea Moșilor Road and Saints' Church. The church was built in 1696

Calea Moşilor was one of the most important streets in Bucharest since its early days. It connected the Old Court in the old city center, to Târgul din Afară, a big fair outside of the city. The street then continued East to major cities in Moldova. Calea Moşilor was the first street in Romania paved with rock in 1825.

Photos made yesterday along the Victory Avenue and some adjacent streets, presented not in the order of the route

Catholic Cathedral an Cathedral Plaza

The St. Joseph Cathedral of the Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest was built in 1873-1884. the Archdiocesan Palace was built in 1925.

The Cathedral Plaza Tower , 73 m tall, was built illegally at a distance to a historical monument (the Cathedral) closer than the limit admitted by law. The Catholic representatives initilaly admitted this in change of some spaces inside the building, later they changed their mind. The pope made known his position against the building. A legal decision forcing the owners to demolish the building was issued but is not clear if it will be applied.

Casino Palace - Vernescu House

Built in 1820, it was one of Bucharest's most imposing buildings in the first half of 19th century. It passed by several owners and had various destinations.

Presently, there is a Casino hosted inside.

The building is situated so close to the road that there is no place for sidewalk where it stands and the people have to walk on the cars' road.

Romanian Academy

These are the old headquarters of the Academy, which will remain in use together with the commie building (posts #31 and #32) near Parliament.

The complex of buildings on Victory Avenue includes several constructions (on both sides of the road), the main ones in a large courtyard with old trees. There is the main old building (1890, in first two pictures) and a big building which appears to be build in neo-Modernist style in the 1970s or 1980s but it could be older (couldn't photograph it as was hidden behind trees).

In third photo, Roman sarcophagi inside the courtyard.

Ofcourse, the Academy has many other, countless departments and properties all around Bucharest and the entire country, but here are the most important institutions.

The Library of the Academy, in Neoromanian style, built in 1920s or 1930s.

Alexandru Alley

Situated near Victoria Palace, is a large area of expensive and beautiful villas built mostly in first half of 20th century.

This is how most of Northern Bucharest looks, affluent neighboroods with impressive properties, tidy parks, large boulevards bordered by trees.

Revolution Square

Athénée Palace Hotel, now a Hilton, may have been Europe's most notorious den of spies in the years leading up to World War II, and only slightly less so during the Cold War.

"Countess" R. G. Waldeck wrote of the hotel in the same era, "Here was the heart of Bucharest, topographically, artistically, intellectually, politically—and, if you like, morally." It was also home at the time to both British spies and the Gestapo. A. L. Easterman called it the "most notorious caravanserai in all Europe. …the meeting place of the Continental spies, political conspirators, adventurers, concession hunters, and financial manipulators. "

Designed by the French architect Théophile Bradeau, built 1912–1914, and modernized 1935–1937 by Duiliu Marcu, was the first building in Bucharest to use reinforced concrete construction.

Romanian Athenaeum is a concert hall and a landmark of Bucharest.

Opened in 1888, the ornate, domed, circular building is the city's main concert hall and home of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic and of the George Enescu annual international music festival.

A portion of the construction funds was raised by public subscription in a 28-year long effort, of which the slogan is still remembered today: "Donate one leu for the Ateneu!

A 75-sqm long and 3-m wide fresco decorates the inside of the circular wall of the concert hall. Painted using the al fresco technique, the piece depicts the most important moments of Romanian history, starting with the conquest of Dacia by Roman emperor Trajan and ending with the realization of Greater Romania in 1918.

Recognized as a symbol of Romanian culture and of Bucharest, the building has been inscribed in 2007 on the list of the Label of European Heritage sites.

Kretzulescu Church was commissioned in 1720–1722 by the boyar Iordache Creţulescu. Originally, the exterior was painted, but since the restoration work done in 1935–1936 (under the supervision of architect Ştefan Balş), the facade is made of brick. The frescoes on the porch date from the original structure, while the interior frescoes were painted by Gheorghe Tattarescu in 1859–1860.

A corner of the former Royal Palace, founded in 1812, rebuilt several times, in present forrm from 1937. It now hosts the National Art Museum, featuring notable collections of medieval and modern Romanian art, as well as the international collection assembled by the Romanian royal family.

Thank you! Is pleasantful to walk in Bucharest (excepting the dormitory neighborhoods of commies that surround the prewar city), on great thoroughouts bordered by monumental constructions or on small streets where almost each villa is different than others, some being real gems.

Like a museum of architecture of a variety of styles not matched in many (if any) European cities.

"Visiting" these streets with Google Street View can give an idea about what Ițm talking, for example this is Alexandru Alley previously presented. But there are hundreds such streets, in fact ~one third of the city if not more.

Also, Bucharest is a lively, dynamic and colourful city.

Some more photos made two days ago.

Bucharest Tower Center finished in 2008. At a height of 120 metres, was the tallest building in Bucharest and Romania between 2008 and 2012, when the Floreasca SkyTower surpassed it.

Lutheran Church and Street

The Transylvanian Saxons living in Bucharest have passed to Lutheranism in 1574. The first Lutheran church was built in 1751-1777 after the King of Sweden has made pressure at Istanbul.

In 1851-1853 was built the present church, which has a spire 36 m tall.

More photos from last raid:

Library of the Academy and the park of the Academy.

Founded in 1866, it has over 5,5 million books and 6,6 million periodicals.

The new building (architects Romeo Belea and Gheorghe Roșu) of the Library was inaugurated in 2001. It has a total surface of 16000 sq m, a 200 seats conference room and has more space than Victoria Palace.

National Geological Museu. The building was erected in 1906 in Neoromanian style.

Inside are exhibited 7,700 items from a total collection of 70,000.

The rocks in front of the building are meteorites.

Palace of Public Functionaries Society - Art Deco building from 1934 on Batiștei Street

Airmen's Boulevard and typical residential street from Northern Bucharest

Macca-Vilacrosse covered streets . Pasajul Macca-Vilacrosse is a fork-shaped, yellow glass covered arcaded street in central Bucharest.

The two narrow streets making up a two-tined, fork-like shape were covered with a glass roof, allowing the entry of natural light while providing shelter from the rain.

Is named after the Chief Architect of Bucharest, Xavier Vilacrosse (a Catalan architect who had followed the French school), who owned an inn that previously existed on the place. Toward the end of 19th century the inn was demolished, being replaced by a two-stories-high, ornate structure, in the style of Western passages.
