BELARUS: A further tranche of main line electrification is to be funded by China’s EximBank under a package of loan agreements signed in Minsk on May 10 at an event attended by presidents Alexander Lukashenko and Xi Jinping.

The agreement between national railway BC and EximBank will fund the electrification at 25 kV 50 Hz of the central section of the Minsk – Vilnius main line between Maladzechna, Gudogai and the Lithuanian border, at a cost of US$76·4m. EximBank will also provide US$99·4m in two tranches to fund BC’s purchase of 18 electric locomotives under a deal with CNR Datong announced last year

BELARUS Railways (BC) has awarded AŽD Praha, Czech Republic, a contract worth around $US 14.4m to resignal the 86km Zhlobin – Gomel line, which is currently being electrified as part of a project to create a 387km north-south electrified corridor between Lithuania, Minsk, and the Ukrainian border

Under the turnkey contract AŽD Praha will supply six ESA 44-BC electronic interlockings, two AD-J level crossing systems, ABE-1-BC onboard systems together with systems diagnostics and power supplies. The deal also includes electronic point machines, which will be installed by BC as part of an evaluation into the wider use of this technology

BELARUS Railways (BC) has awarded Pesa, Poland, a contract to supply four additional class DP3 three-car DMUs with an option for a further four trains

The 1520mm-gauge 140km/h regional trains will supplement the initial batch of three sets delivered in 2014. These trains are currently used on international services from Minsk to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, but are due to be replaced on this route by 200km/h Stadler EPn-001 EMUs when electrification is completed

BELARUSIA Railway (BC) has completed electrification of the final section of the Minsk - Gomel line between Zhlobin - Gomel, close to the borders with Ukraine and Russia

The first electric locomotive passed over the line on April 5, and on April 15, BC began operating electric rail freight services
