I have to say I am very skeptical about this tower getting built anytime soon. The building boom in Dubai is mostly over. Look at The Pentominium on-hold, Infinity Tower at a crawl, Marina 101 same thing, DAMAC Heights at a stand-still pretty much, and the Dubai Pearl also at an extremely slow pace.

Dubai needs the tourism money to kick in after about 5 years or so before they can really consider another building boom because the oil money is running out very soon.

1.The developer is Emaar though, not Cayan, Trident or Dubai Pearl etc...Emaar is currently constructing towers, and probably has the best reputation of major developers in Dubai.

2.Damac Heights is not standing still.

3.Dubai does have tourism money - It is one of the world's major tourist destinations.

4.Dubai's real estate industry has been recovering since approxamitely 2011.

this building is in a prime location. it is not a building boom, it is one skyscraper, which has a spire, so the roof will most likely be below 300m, so it is not one of these mega projects, the other projects started before the crisis, this project however knows what it is facing. so if the money is there it can be build

1. Dubai hardly ever had significant amounts of oil. it only makes up about a twentieth of the GDP.

2. have you ever thought who is paying for towers like infinity? it's not Dubai government, that's for sure. mostly foreign investors, maybe a few emirati private investors.

demand is created by tenants working in service, trade, finance, media, tourism, etc.

It seams the footbridge from the Dubai Metro station to the Dubai Mall will have a section connecting with the hotel as well

BTW, there is something grandeur and fitting about the design. The tapering toward the top, the antennas, the similarities with the other Address hotel on the other side of the Mall

The Tram was the plan back then ... now it is scrapped, and they are building the walkaway from the Metro station

Is there any new news on this thread? Looks like all like 4 year old news to me and if there is new news please show it. There's no reason to believe this tower will be built anytime as far as i can tell.
EDIT:
Nevermind:

Emaar to Build Hotel Near Burj Khalifa

Dubai-based Emaar Properties has unveiled plans to construct a 340-meter (1,115-foot) mixed use tower in downtown Dubai. The tower will include a 200-room hotel and 542 apartments. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2015.

The sale of apartments will start on September 22, said Arif Amiri, CEO of Emaar Retail, Bloomberg reports.

“Our hotel occupancy in the area is around 90 percent all year long, which shows the strong demand for hospitality in Dubai,” Mr. Amiri said at a press conference on Sunday. “There is strong interest from investors in the Gulf, Russia, China and the Middle East.”

I doubt they will anytime soon, with the massive walkway from the Dubai Metro station up to Dubai Mall, and existing public bus services, they can coup and serve the BK Downtown area well enough.

Investors line up to buy Emaar’s new Dubai project… 2 days in advance

The Address The Bvld is slated for public launch on September 22

By Parag DeulgaonkarPublished Thursday, September 20, 2012

Though the public launch of The Address The BVLD in Downtown Dubai is scheduled for September 22, people have started queuing outside the Emaar sales office to buy apartments off plan.

Since the announcement of the project on September 16, people working in companies located in Emaar Square said they have seen crowds outside Emaar’s office.

“We could earlier see few people standing outside their [Emaar] office, but today the numbers have swelled. I believe the numbers will go up by Friday night,” said BG, who works in a company based in Emaar Square. “I believe they are office staff waiting on behalf of investors to get the token from Emaar.”
