Some wonderful images of wildlife there - don't you just love goats?
The Tatras mountains look pristine and wonderful. I'm imagining that there are still wolves there? |

Well euh.... It's not a beauty, but I saw worse in my life. It was quite clean though. But I missed the tramstop near the station. It seemed to be closed for a while, and because we didn't check the buses in advance, we had to take a much too expensive taxi. No way looking for a cheaper one, they all wanted to steal our money. As everyone knows, in Bratislava they cheat you anyway.
So here's a little revenge ( ): As written in the travel guides: Never take a taxi in Bratislava! I hope all the f...... cab drivers over there get bankrupt one day.

There are plans for Hlavna stanica to be modernized. That means, the historical facade is planned to be uncovered and restored while the whole area from the station building southwards to the big crossing would be redeveloped with some mixed use stuff. It seems however, plans are changing every few years and its one of those projects that can drag on forever. Like the station Wien-Mitte which took 25 years to be redeveloped.

So the historic facade of Bratislava station is still present, but behind the 'modern' facade?
And by the way, any idea when the gigantic construction works on Wien Sudbahnhof should be finished?

Indeed, the warf looked enormous 2 years ago! Do they still use the small Meidling Bahnhof as an alternative?

Yes, nothing has changed so far. But by December 9th the temporary "Südbahnhof (Ost)" will be torn down and the new Hauptbahnhof will take over the regional trains that used it until then. (So trains to Bratislava will be among the first ones to use the new Hauptbahnhof)
By late 2014, early 2015 Hauptbahnhof should be fully operational. Then most long distance trains will stop there instead of Westbahnhof. Meidling will become a secondary stop. Regarding the Hlavna stanica in Bratislava. I don't think the facade in all its glory is still there, but the walls are (have a look at it from above). There is a pretty long thread in the Slovak subforum. A bit hard to understand with google translator, but it seems the project is on hold and burried in various conflicts and scandals. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...624879&page=41

Thank you for all the information. The bird eye view of Brartislava station makes everything clear to me.
