it would be ridiculous anyway seeing as St George Tower went through a costly PI too. What would another expensive PI in these supposedly austere times hope to conclude?!

Depends on how much power EH and Westminster still have in these matters.
The Mayor’s office has been broadly supportive of the whole cluster here so it should be rubberstamped without a problem. There has already been a PI here for the St Georges tower and considering at the time this was a standalone tower and on a site closer to Westminster in these ‘cherished’ views the usual mob scream about its hard to think what basis any new public inquiry would be allowed. I’m Sure Simon Jenkins is already beavering away on his typewriter busy penning another classic on how London is going to rack and ruin with these gaudy Dubai type towers and how the Mayor ( both old and new) have been hoodwinked by slimy developers. I wonder if he is going to do a piece on the dire new hotel proposed for Minories, directly opposite a World Heritage Site. |

It just remains to be seen about how quickly they start work. Though there are few small sites here I think it helps that it won't be under control of one landowner. |

Why does the title say 170m and 155m if the plans are 200m and 160m??

Hey - Imagine they'd actually built something worth keeping first time around. There would be two benefits:
a) There wouldn't be this vast ecological waste of tearing down a really really vast building and erecting a slightly bigger one in its place. b) None of us would have had to put up with the present building for the last 30 years. Fingers crossed the next one is going to be worth keeping in 30 years time. By the renders, it's certainly 'better than before' (That old phrase!) |

"mini manhatten"
god its all so depressingly predictable and pathetic! and what views of the river will this spoil?!? Coming back to Cnapan and the comments about fining for abusive appeal, sure people should be able to protest against something for free but for reasons that actually exist surely? |

"castles in the sky", I like that.
No wonder their appeal wasn't granted, 'blot out more of the sky and river' is such a weak argument. |

the article never mentions a 200m tower.. where did that figure come from? was it a knowlingly over inflated height so they could reduce following objections? Also I count more than 41 floors on one of the renders. confused face
