Thought Vladivostok would be better positioned in this ranking.

How's the Kazan Airport works coming along? When I was there in April/May, the apron in front of the terminal was closed & we had to be bussed to another apron near maintenance
hangars.

Thanks for the news. I'm back in December, so I was just wondering what to expect. Probably still have to be bussed a long way to the terminal.

Most of them a relics from the Soviet era. There are some which are getting rebuilds &/or new terminals. They'll need to be up to scratch for the World Cup in 2018.

Most airports listed (19 of 20) have projects for expansion and reconstruction for 2018-2020.

Yah, until the near future, maybe by 2014, there will be bussing. It just depends on the speed of reconstruction.

I just read last night that the new terminal 1A is to be finished by the end of the year! Though it looks like no aerobridges. Can't understand why they wouldn't have them to protect the passengers from the harsh Russian winter.

Maybe because when 1b is finished and reconstruction is over, they will put the aerobridges on. I think they just want to finish the main things first.

Terminal 1b will just be a refurb of the current terminal instead of a completely new terminal that was originally planned. Anyways, hope the new terminal is in operation in December, would be nice to check it out.

P.S. The Aeroexpress is supposed to commence operations at the end of December also.

Yeah, that could become true if the new cladding on the terminal is finished and interiors, and if the Aeroexpress gets its work done in Kazan. The aeroexpress is built from the airport to about the suburbs of Kazan.

Kazan's new terminal was opened last week. Only handling minimal flights at this stage, but should be fully open by the end of the year. However, the aerobridges won't be used until spring 2013.

As you can see, there were some changes over the year. Firstly, and embarissingly, Vnukovo had shrunk in passengers and was overtaken by Pulkovo. The first time one of the "big three" wasnt in the top 3. Secondly, Rostov had beat Ufa and Krasnoyarsk to the top and Khabarovsk's numbers have slowed in pace compared to Rostov, Ufa, and Krasnoyarsk, which is why it fell back by 2. And Thirdly, Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, and kazan had overtaken Surgut and Tyumen to the top in passenger numbers.
So, the list has slightly changed since the other one.

Oh and Kaliningrad has reversed the passenger decline.
