Huh. I'd have thought that Toronto proposals would taper off after 1 York got scaled back.

This has come as a surprise for everyone. I have a feeling that only one or two of them will be built, but I think I would prefer it that way anyways.

apparently the development application gets filed on Monday (the next day the cities development offices are open) so this is indeed a serious proposal. I have a feeling it will be phased with one tower at a time though.

I also think Toronto deserves supertall status. These towers, sadly, don't attract my attention.

This is all breaking news right now. It is a very exciting proposal - everyone is just trying to take this all in.

The Princess of Wales threatre, shown below would be demolished.

Talk is that the Historic buildings facades will be preserved.

News on this one is scheduled to be announced on October 1st.

http://www.projectcore.com/ - Project announcement launches Oct 1st.

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment...-condo-complex - THE STAR

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle4577221/ - THE GLOBE AND MAIL

"the complex will reach skyward with three dancing condo towers, over 80 stories tall -- each one different -- designed by Gehry in a way that comments on the fabric of the city where he grew up."

"He declines to put a price tag on the complex, but it's almost sure to be in the billion-dollar range."

I'm thinking one or two of the towers might be sacrificed in order to save the theatre, if Mirvish is on board with that.

About time Frank Gehry did something this big in his hometown!

Very exciting project, I can't wait to see how it fleshes out!

If this turns out as nice as Beekman, I'm 100% for it. The transformation of the Art Gallery of Ontario (by Gehry) gives me a lot of confidence in his ability to create something that works, has beauty, and engages the public.

I have no issue with the loss of The Princess of Wales theatre. It was built in 1993 and is architecturally quite forgettable. If demand warrants construction of another theatre elsewhere, it will happen. If this were the Pantages or Royal Alexandra they'd be no way this would pass first base.

Side note: 340m would be nice, but 300m looks more likely.

We couldn't wait till the announcement tomorrow? lol.

But yes this is indeed quite exciting. This looks like a full blown Frank Gehry experience rather than the toned down Gehry that was the AGO expansion. If the base is along the lines of Guggenheim Bilbao and the towers like Beekman in New York, it will undoubtedly become the most significant architectural project of this generation in Toronto.

I don't think they are the final designs. Its a complete rip off D grade version of the boxes in Moscow.

The final design WILL be pleasing to the eye, these aren't
