Glad to see this project is going through. Any idea when this project is expected to break ground?

They haven't launched the project yet (which will happen this year).
Banks typically want 80% of the units sold before the groundbreaking event, so I'd say we're still a year off from seeing any construction activity on-site.
Don't quote me though.

Mirvish+Gehry Prepares for Marketing, Seeks Site Plan Approval

Quote:
As it stands, Projectcore wants to make sure every aspect of the residential layout works and can be a success. While those last design details are being worked out, marketing of the development has just taken a step forward with the recent release of view photos from the future penthouses. If these new photos are any indication, news on the project going into sales may come sooner rather than later.

Canada can always be proud of Mr. Gehry raising the standard of architecture everywhere.

Still inching its way to construction... Just very slowly.

http://urbantoronto.ca/news/2017/07/...upertall-tower

Quote:
Robin Ramcharan, Project Manager at Projectcore, confirmed that the development is on track and moving along well. "We continue to explore programming, interior elements, and we are looking at interesting mixed-use components with built-in flexibility to allow for changes in the market," Ramcharan stated. "The process does take time but we remain on track and have made significant progress with major issues."

Projectcore is determined to maintain the original design intent of the distinctive towers, as allowing Frank Gehry to leave his mark on the Toronto skyline was a driving force behind the height and expression of the towers. "When we hired Frank Gehry, we didn't want to constrain one of the world’s best architects to standard restrictions," says Ramcharan. "We believe it was important to make a statement that good architecture should take the lead, and we worked to find a balance with planning metrics."

The first of the towers on this list to be proposed, Mirvish+Gehry has been slow-moving, but appears to be inching its way closer to reality.

It will have to go to sales first.

I love Ghery's work. this looks stunning! Reminds me of the one in NY kind of, but bigger and even better!

I really hope this project materializes. From all of Toronto's proposals, this is the game changer in terms of architecture and will alter the skyline from the west. Hopefully, we will hear more in the next coming few months of any progress.

It all depends on execution and I hope that along with this massive injection of density we will see pedestrianization of the streets nearby. There are far too many cars in this area competing with people for space, extremely stressful and uncomfortable. Without pedestrianization these new projects will not improve quality of life and urban experience in this area but actually damage it.

Funny you should mention that since John Street (The street next to M+G) is to become pedestrian and bike-friendly through the John Street Cultural Corridor Project.
Events such as the TIFF will be held on John St. from now on. Construction will begin next year:

The prioritization of streetcars on King Street (called the King Street Pilot Project) has been approved last month. It discourages car traffic by forcing them to turn right at every intersection. You can expect pedestrianization to follow shortly:

How this will change starting in October:

How it might eventually turn out:

No cars:

OR

Transit only lanes:

According to that link, the towers are now 305m, and 275m (architectural plans, pg 49 & 102).
