Gdynia-Zaleszczyki (1314 km) was the longest train route in a pre-war Poland. In 1931, trip from Gdynia to Zaleszczyki was taking 26 hours at an average speed of 50,5 km/h.

I think today's railway connections between Białystok and Szklarska Poręba can also long for nearly 20 hours

This should be worthy of some attention:

Auschwitz survivor to sue German drama for calling camp 'Polish'
A Polish survivor of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz has threatened to sue the German producers of a controversial wartime drama for labelling both the Auschwitz and Majdanek camps as "Polish".

The facilities were called "Polish" in an episode of ZDF's "Our Mothers. Our Fathers," which follows a group of young Germans through the war and has already caused outrage in Poland by depicting members of Poland's underground army as anti-Semitic.

"It is offensive and dangerous because the younger people don't know much about history so the wording can create and perpetuate a false version of history," said Karol Tendera, who is also secretary of an association of concentration camp victims.

Mr Tendera has demanded an apology and £10,100 in compensation, and says he will sue if his demands go unsatisfied.

Both the Polish state and individual Poles can react with sensitivity to any description of the Nazi concentration camps, many of which were located in German occupied Poland, as "Polish". Poland's embassies issue guidelines on how the camps should be described in the media.

Mr Tendera conceded that sometimes there are genuine mistakes but in the ZDF case he believed the Germans were playing games with history.

"Sometimes the media make mistakes because of stupidity, but other times it is because of ill will, and the Germans are probably trying to shift responsibility [for the concentration camps]," he said. "The Polish government has reacted poorly to the ZDF production so we as the last witnesses to the tragedy need to act."
