it's very fashionable to say Snobs is crap. I liked it.. Personally, I think they're pretty much likely to move to Digbeth when this happens, along with the Yard Bird (although the posibility is they may move to Hockley...) --- As for the building, I like it.. Tidy clean lines and if the tidy up the public space outside it'll be a winner. They've already got rid of that awful canopy. Looks good.

I honestly don't see the render coming out as white, as the image suggests. Liked to be proved wrong though.

Just so you know, the hotel that is suggested by the renders is Tune and they very rarely do anything to the outside of their buildings when developing their hotel.

The design and access statement says the cladding has failed. They will look to see the condition of the existing finish underneith to see if it can be repaired to bring the building back to it's original appearence alternatively they will reclad.

I wouldn't say it's fashionable to say it's crap. Purely because it's a fashionable place to go atm. It has a very good reputation around the UK. I've heard people talk of it, from London, Manchester, even Newcastle. It's just that it's not in the best area when it comes to clubbing imo. Digbeth is becoming THE place to go out.

I personally think it is shite, simply because I don't like the music played there, or most super-clubs in brum. I'm not mainstream....

Finally! Some progress on this building. It's been such an eyesore for such a long time. Might be a decent refurb. Nothing too drastic, but an imrpovement on what it is now I would imagine

Snobs is alright for going out, getting extremely pissed and just having a good time with mates. Don't go in with expectations, except for the next day's hangover (seriously, what do they mix with the vodka there because I never get hangovers as bad as I do after Snobs?!). The crowd can be pretty hit and miss though.

Aesthetically the building doesn't need any further change. If they can bring back the original external finish then great, although I remember it to be quite a course finish which would start to look grim quite quickly alongside such a busy road. Surprised to hear about the cladding failing, especially so soon after it being fitted. I'd imagine there's some sort of guarantee on the cladding, surely?

I like this. About time something decent was done to this building. 100 new jobs created too- hope they recruit local young people. They are delicately bringing the building back into use, no brainer compared to the current state of it.

Plans to transform a seven-storey building in Birmingham city centre into a 137-bedroom hotel complex have been recommended for approval by council planners.

The office element of Beneficial Building on the corner of Paradise Street and Suffolk Street, which was constructed in the early 1960s, has been vacant for more than two years.

Snobs Nightclub and a Greek restaurant occupy the ground floor of the building fronting onto Paradise Circus.

The application, which will be examined by Birmingham City Council councillors this week (22 November), seeks to transform Beneficial Building into a 137-bedroom Tune Hotel, the group's first outside of London, and 53 serviced apartments operated by Bridge Street. On the ground floor there will also be retail and restaurant space.

"The proposed uses for the building are considered to be an appropriate mix in this location, with the alterations planned improving the overall appearance of a vacant building and not harming the amenity of the surrounding area," city planners said in the report.

"Subject to safeguarding conditions, the scheme would fully reuse a large, vacant commercial building, delivering significant new investment to a building within a key city centre core location."

Snobs Nightclub said it was "broadly in favour" of the development and suggested it has a designated smoking area on the ground floor for its patrons.
