The fact this metro did not wholly shut down after Armenia became independent is an unexplained miracle.

Since 09/2011 there is a new rvz train in service with new colours.
Also the rolling stock is renewing and redressing with new bogies.

But RVZ (Riga) never produced metro trains. It looks like MVM (Moscow) or VagonMash (Saint Petersburg). Or maybe I'm missing something?

Oh yes sorry it is a mistake rvz was the brand of Yerevan tram cars, which totally abandoned in 2004. The Yerevan system uses the 81-717/714 cars produced from the 1970s and used in most Soviet metro systems.

81-717/714 was mass-produced from 1979, so they are the children of 80th, but you are quite right anyway.

All Yerevan metro trains are sent to Tbilisi, Georgia and are modernized there !!!!! They just came back from Tbilisi !

They are modernized in Tbilisi just now.

There are signs at both Armenian and Russian in Yerevan Metro (plus English signs at "Yeritsardakan" station). As it possible to understand, only few Russians can read Armenian signs.

Trolleybus in Yerevan ilmed by Joachim Kaddatz and Dave Spencer with other transport enthusiasts while traveling in Armenia in September 1999.
