Richfield Tower - Downtown LA | *1929 | ✝1970

Another real gem that had to go for modernist dullness:

Los Angeles | Richfield Tower (built 1929)

Any chance that this former LA landmark gets reconstructed one day? Perhaps at a shifted location?

It was a main landmark of Los Angeles and would be again today, I think.
Such an Art Deco marvel, hopefully not lost forever! One of the most moronic demolitions ever, ever.

Richfield Building, Los Angeles, California by Boston Public Library, on Flickr

Great Noir style! A lighthouse, a landmark of the city.

A number of the golden angels survived:

7 Landmark Buildings We've Lost to Demolition

Quote:
The world has lost a tremendous number of historic structures that were once monumental testaments to mankind's ingenuity and innovation. Many have been lost to war, terrorism, fire, or natural disasters, but a great number have been willfully demolished in the name of "progress." Most heritage and architecture enthusiasts can name at least one building in their city that they wish had been protected, but was razed to make way for new spaces deemed more fit for modern times. But from the rubble of these proud landmarks rose the fight for heritage preservation. Recognizing not only the aesthetic and beautifying purpose they served, but their social and cultural importance as well, the loud voices of preservationists around the world have spurred the creation of legislation that seeks to protect remarkable buildings and prevent their untimely demise.

Probably as the city was away from the rail road there were not many inhabitants.

Sad to see all those beautiful old buildings that were buried or even worse demolished. What would it be if all those old cities dominated cities such as New York and San Fransisco, new skyscrapers are sometimes beautiful, but I prefer this. It's just so nice!
