Currently, it appears as though they will vote no, which means we will likely get a revised version of this project in a couple of months without the casino, and maybe a bit of cheapening coming to the towers. I specifically expect the base to be dumbed down, the current set-up looks extremely expensive. I would expect the rail-decking to stay though as they will likely retain the convention centre expansion which is currently planned for above the tracks. That's just me speculating though, in reality I have no clue what will happen.

I just hope the two main towers remain!

Here is the trailer: At 0:16, the explosion goes off in London and they say it happened in London at 0:22

You're right. But isn't that Alcatraz at 1:58?

I certainly hope they will vote yes, it would be such a travesty personally to allow cheapening to the towers and especially the base.

new render, the Casino towers seem to be barely scraping the 200m mark here. (but also appear to be placeholders) not that it matters, the casino is essentially dead at this point.

I'm glad that they shifted the towers a little to the west a little. Otherwise they would have blocked the view of the central business district from the CN Tower.

At first glance, I'm not keen on the new placement of the hotels though. I usually prefer a strong apron.

Casino was voted down by council earlier this week. Expect a significant redesign of the project, and a much longer timeframe for completion.

that doesn't sound like good news. this building had the perfect design in the perfect location and was exactly what toronto needed for its skyline.

Toronto's skyline would be so beastly if these got built.

Looks like this project may still happen:

He stated that the casino really was minor and that the plan wasn't ever dependent on the casino being approved at this location anyway; it just would have helped to accelerate their plans.

So no need to worry. We will be getting a large project here and it's not dead by any means, but the plan is a little longer term as they continue to seek the funds (without a casino), to deal with some funky engineering to build overtop of the existing convention spaces, and to work to get the approvals they needed anyway (i.e. for the Metrolinx ROW, City of Toronto, etc). Good news.

I like this proposal better than Mirvish. Hopefully they'll still be supertalls without the casino. Any latest news on the project?

posted at UT, Adam Vaughan is the City councillor whose ward covers this development:

What's happening with the hotel component? The Inter-Continental will come down to make way for this proposal, so I imagine it would have to be replaced with new hotel capacity.

Not really, it doesn't HAVE TO have a replacement hotel, but I wouldn't be surprised if they converted one of the office spaces or residential spaces in a hotel from the original plans.

We really need this twin towers proposal, first supertall in Canada, Id say we more than deserve this, I wonder if the only thing stopping them right now is proximity to Billy Bishop airport
