The €267 millions euros project, to be called Musée des Confluences, will be located in the new Confluence area in Lyon, where the Rhône and Saône rivers meet. It will have a total surface of 46 500 m 2.

Quote:
Confluence Museum is a museum of sciences and societies. Sciences, because it is necessary to develop scientific culture in our modern society. Societies because it is important to build the bridge between science and social issues. Science is part of the society. And societies are also polyphonic.

The three elements of design are: the cloud, the crystal and the base:

One of the key elements of the building is to make a cloud, a levitated body, leaving the garden Confluent flow underneath. The building does not form a single block full height but leaves room for visual perspectives and incorporates a comprehensive development of the tip of Confluence.

Based on a pedestal, the cloud as a whole - roof, sides and underside - will be wrapped in a metal skin.

The entrance to the museum will be marked on the north by the Crystal placed on the stand. Its shape was desired simple, easy to understand, in contrast with the complexity of the cloud and the venues. Made of of glass surfaces and transparent assembled on a metal structure, the crystal will also be a strong signal, facing the city and the public.

“French romances occupy a central position in the development of medieval European
literature. Their most popular subject matter by far was the Arthurian legend, which, though it
had its origins elsewhere, was first cast in romance form in France: the Round Table, the
tragic love story of Lancelot and Guinevere, and the notion of the Grail quest were all French
innovations."
