MASHHAD | Public Transport

After long years’ construction, Mashhad’s metro system is opened at last.
Construction works began in Dec. 1999, and after twelve years, test train action started on January 4, 2011. Introducing passenger presentation took place on February 21, 2011. Limited eventual trial operations began on March 12, 2011. Usual service operates since April 24, 2011 (but temporarily by 3 trains with 35 min headways). After ensuiring fully safe, official inauguration of regular service was held on 10 Oct 2011.

Mashhad’s metro is the 2nd Iranian metro system. I personally think it is more modern than Tehran’s metro.

See what says Wikipedia for Mashad LRS:

Initially, an 19 km route of Line 1 had been built with 22 stations. Line 1, runs between Nakhrisi in the east and Vakilabad in the southwest with journey time of 30 min. Approximately half the route are in tunnels and underground stations, other part is on ground.
A further Line 2 will be a conventional heavy metro, running north-south for 14 km between Koohsangi and Tabarsi with 12 stations and is currently under construction by two tunnel boring machines

Recently I’ve confused between the tram-light rail-metro terms in Mashhad.

www.lrta.org says that it is a metro, but www.subways.net & www.urbanrail.net says it is light rail. Also, some says that it is a tram. I totally get confused.

Which definition is true? An urban rail fan of Mashhad please clears this.

My word is hence most of the system is underground, so it is a metro system. Am I right?

The half percent of this line is operating underground , just as heavy metro and the half percent is operating almost like a tram so we can say thats a LRS.

I’ve some questions (arose after viewing some websites). Please answer one by one –
1) Left side, right side or both sides, - which type of platforms are in most numbers in Mashhad subway network?
2) Which are the highest and deepest stations of Mashhad metro?
3) Which is the busiest metro station?
4) Which stations have interchange facility with suburban rail network?
5) Where is/are the depot(s) of the subway network?
